Definition: A peptide produced by vascular endothelium and the adrenal medulla; in experimental animal studies, it exerts a long-lasting hypotensive effect associated with reduced vascular resistance and inhibition of aldosterone secretion from the zona glomerulosa of the adrenal cortex.
