Definition: a phosphatase with an optimum pH of less than 7 (for several isozymes, it is 5.4), notably present in the prostate gland; demonstrable in lysosomes with Gomori nonspecific acid phosphatase stain; it hydrolyzes many orthophosphoric monoesters.
