Definition: The cholinesterase that hydrolyzes acetylcholine to acetate and choline within the central nervous system and at peripheral neuroeffector junctions (motor endplates and autonomic ganglia).
Synonym(s): choline esterase I, “e”-type cholinesterase, specific cholinesterase, true cholinesterase
