Uses For candesartan cilexetil
Candesartan belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.
Candesartan works by blocking the action of a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, candesartan relaxes blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure.
Candesartan is also used to treat heart failure and cut down on the number of hospital visits for heart problems.
candesartan cilexetil is available only with your doctor's prescription.
Before Using candesartan cilexetil
In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For candesartan cilexetil, the following should be considered:
Allergies
Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to candesartan cilexetil or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.
Pediatric
Studies on candesartan cilexetil have been done only in adult patients, and there is no specific information comparing use of candesartan in children with use in other age groups.
Geriatric
candesartan cilexetil has been tested in patients 65 years of age or older and has not been shown to cause different side effects or problems in older people than it does in younger adults. However, blood levels of candesartan are increased in the elderly. Older people may be more sensitive than younger adults to the effects of candesartan. Older adults with heart failure may need to be monitored more carefully for signs of low blood pressure.

- Dehydration (fluid and electrolyte loss due to excessive perspiration, vomiting, diarrhea, prolonged diuretic therapy, dialysis, or dietary salt restriction)—Blood pressure-lowering effects of candesartan may be increased.

Precautions While Using candesartan cilexetil
It is important that your doctor check your progress at regular visits to make sure that candesartan cilexetil is working properly and to check for unwanted effects.
Check with your doctor immediately if you think that you may be pregnant. Candesartan may cause birth defects or other problems in the baby if taken during pregnancy.
Do not take other medicines unless they have been discussed with your doctor. This especially includes over-the-counter (nonprescription) medicines for appetite control, asthma, colds, cough, hay fever, or sinus problems, since they may tend to increase your blood pressure.
Dizziness or lightheadedness may occur, especially if you have been taking a diuretic (water pill). Make sure you know how you react to candesartan cilexetil before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you experience these effects.
Check with your doctor right away if you become sick while taking candesartan cilexetil, especially with severe or continuing nausea and vomiting or diarrhea. These conditions may cause you to lose too much water and lead to low blood pressure.
Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting also may occur if you exercise or if the weather is hot. Heavy sweating can cause loss of too much water and result in low blood pressure. Use extra care during exercise or hot weather.
Black patients may have a smaller response to the blood pressure-lowering effects of candesartan.
