The use of ultrasound allows real time visualization of the nerves and the surrounding structures with real time guidance prior to advancing the needle and visual confirmation of the local anesthetic spread around the nerve. Initial studies and results suggest that ultrasound guidance may decrease latency and improve success rates, eliminating or reducing serious complications. This course is designed for the regional anesthesia practitioner who is currently using or wishing to use ultrasound guided technology in the performance of peripheral nerve blocks. Highlights: Upper extremity peripheral nerve blocks Lower extremity peripheral nerve blocks Truncal nerve blocks Neuroaxial nerve blocks Overview of equipment operations, scanning techniques & image optimization
