Now in its fourth year, the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Heart and Vascular Conference is recognized as one of the region’s premier events for cardiovascular disease education. The 2012 conference will showcase nationally renowned speakers and faculty who will discuss advances in cardiovascular care, as well as the state of health care reform and the effect it may have on the medical practice. This conference is designed for physicians who specialize in primary care, internal medicine, interventional cardiology, interventional radiology and vascular surgery, as well as hospitalists, intensivists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and allied health practitioners interested in discovering new insight on cardiovascular disease from leading experts.
Educational Objectives Following this educational conference, attendees should be able to: Enhance understanding of the relationship between coronary disease and vascular disease Understand approaches to cardiovascular disease management from various medical subspecialties Summarize clinical advances in the medical, surgical and interventional treatment of aortic, carotid, renal and lower extremity vascular diseases Describe emerging technology related to stroke management Discuss new techniques for percutaneous cardiac valve repair and replacement Analyze areas in need of clinical and translational research to advance the care of complex patients with vascular disease and/or cardiac disease Understand approaches to medical management and advanced therapies for heart failure patients Describe the latest evidence and guidelines supporting new cardiac imaging modalities Elevate awareness with patients and caregivers the risks and benefits of screening, early detection and prevention in the management of cardiovascular disease Apply new technical approaches to specific lesion subsets such as left main lesions Summarize advances in cancer management through chemoembolization Outline implications of health care reform initiatives SGH, in our commitment to education excellence, has expanded our agenda this year to include renowned faculty who will provide a provocative perspective regarding not only the care of the cardiovascular disease patient, but also the state of healthcare reform.
Keynote speakers will include Jim Craig, former goaltender for the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” Olympic Hockey Team. Following the death of his father from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, Mr. Craig became the national spokesperson for the Ultimate SAAVE campaign, a public awareness initiative to encourage awareness and screening for aortic disease. In addition, Daniel Gross, DNSc, RN, Executive Vice President of Hospital Operations for Sharp Healthcare, and 2011 appointee to the Board of Trustees of the American Hospital Association, will provide invaluable insight regarding the latest developments in healthcare reform.
Guest faculty includes David Shavelle, MD, who will discuss percutaneous treatment of aortic stenosis. Dr Shavelle is an Associate Clinical Professor University of Southern California, Director, Cardiac Catherization Laboratories, and director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Los Angeles County- USC Medical Center.
