he symposium's theme will be centered on theprogression rates from normal to mild cognitive impairment and then to dementia. In particular, the symposium will focus on (a) community-based studies which have looked at factors assessing progression rates, and (b) biomarkers used for early detection, measuring progression and assessing response to interventions. The workshop will discuss the rationale behind three new prevention studies, which will be launched in 2013, for prevention of Alzheimer's disease, including the design and methods, drugs to be used and the assessment of outcomes. Ethical issues to be discussed include risks and benefits of participation in clinical trials and the question of whether diagnostic information from tests done purely for research should be released to participants in clinical trials.
