For Anxiety "I first want to absolutely stress the fact that medication works different for everyone! I once was someone hastily looking up reviews for mirtazapine because I was stuck in a completely anxious rut and a different drug wasn’t working as fast as I wanted it to (citalopram). My doctor suggested this because 1) honestly was an anxious mess and 2) I had lost a huge amount of weight from anxiety/loss of appetite. I went on this and it really, really helped me. My anxiety is a lot less than it has been and I’m able to work through it better. I've also gotten back to a healthy weight. I've been on mirtazapine for over a year now, and it has worked wonders for me. I decided to write a review because I was once that person frantically scrolling looking at reviews to determine if my meds would “really help” and the positive comments ease some of my worries. Anyway, I hope you find what works best for you and I wish you luck!"

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "TLDR: Alleviated body panic and sleeping issues. Do not take if you already have issues managing symptoms of depression. I was prescribed this for PTSD and because my sensitivity to noise disrupted my sleep. Sudden noises produced a sort of 'fight or flight' response from my body that was typically followed by an emotional response. Remeron dials down that nervous response. I haven't woken to foot steps while on it and I have become significantly less sensitive to surprises. Beware, your body will take time to get used to this medication. For the first week I was horribly lethargic. After that I had issues with anger and rage filled outbursts. Always keep in mind that drugs are just a fraction of what it takes to be mentally well. To all reading this, I love you and I'm proud of you for being here."

For Insomnia "This is my honest review after being on it for roughly 8 months now for my Anxiety/Insomnia.. Its a life changer for the better. I was a big skeptic as probably you are who is reading it. For almost a month I would just be reading different reviews on different anti depressants as I would just avoid taking it due to online reviews etc. As a person who was probably in the same boat as you, I finally decided to take it after my breakdown over lack of sleep due to anxiety. I got the best night sleep I had in years and even helped with my anxiety heaps. I have continued to take it (while slowly increasing my dose) and I honestly never want to go back. It far outweighs the positive it has been on my personal life and to you who is reading it, it helped bring clarity over everything and been able to be the person version of myself. Please give it a shot if you are going through anxiety or insomnia as it was and still the best thing to it. Period."

For Anxiety "I wanted to leave a review in the hopes of helping someone similar to me. 7 years I suffered with anxiety on and off, the last year has been unbearable! I suffered with extreme anxiety attacks over the silliest of things, I would be physically sick! I went a week without eating and constantly being sick, I was really low to the point of thinking I’d be better off not being here, I went to the doctors and was given sertraline which made me worse, I then tried citalopram which did help with my mood but didn’t help with the extreme anxiety, I was about to give up but my doctor suggested mirtazapine 15mg, I can’t explain the relief I feel! Side effects were drowsy in a morning, sleep like a baby, constipation, which lactulose solves and weight gain, but they soon wore off, for me this drug has given me my life back, I can now cope with any situation, for anyone suffering, please don’t give up, the right medication for you is out there."

For Anxiety "Well my second day on the increased dosage of Mirtazipine (from 15 to 30 mg). Not much change in sleeping but I did notice a difference in a reduction of anxiety symptoms. Some of the fear has been reduced and I am a little more relaxed. The world around me looks like it is coming into focus too. Don't know if anyone has that unreality thing that comes with anxiety."

For Anxiety "Take all these other reviews with a grain of salt. I think you really need to remember every body is different and so will your reaction to any medicine. As for the weight gain - if you have an increase in your appetite you have to really watch what you eat. I've been on 30mg / day for the last month and haven't had any side effects. In fact, I've been losing weight and this weight loss has continued while taking mirtzapine. I'm sleeping better than ever at night and have felt more awake and energetic during the day than ever."

For Insomnia "I was suffering from chronic insomnia. No problem falling asleep around 9:30-10:00 pm but by 2 am I was wide awake & up for the day. I tried Trazadone 50mg once & it wiped me out. Then I tried a Valium 5mg tab & not very helpful either. I tried Melatonin 3mg & that was useless for me as well. I talked to my Dr & she prescribed Mirtazipine 7.5 mg. That dose totally wiped me out, so I skipped a day & took 1/2 of the 7.5 mg tablet. Once again it wiped me out & I tried a 1/4 tablet and that was just the right dose for me. I sleep well throughout the night but it does take some coffee in the am to get going. FYI it's the only pill I take other than occasional Tylenol or Motrin. Hope this helps someone out there."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I am an alcoholic/addict who had been self medicating through any illicit substance I could get my hands on for over 10 years. Remeron was suggested in treatment since I’ve suffered with anxiety/social anxiety/major depression for so many years that I had lost hope in ever getting better. Remeron worked fast and with counseling/meditation/exercise, and I felt like a person again. I was on Remeron for about 4 months until I tapered off my 7.5 mg dose. For me less was more. About 10 months later I noticed my depression creeping up and since I’ve been sober/clean for about 15 months I felt like I fell short in mental health maintenance (when I really didn’t) So I went to see a doctor and got back on 15mg and the next day the medication was already working better than I could have ever hoped for. I didn’t want to accept the fact that I was getting depressed but if I didn’t reach out for help it would of led me down the road to relapse."

For Anxiety "Hi after reading the comments I thought I would share my experience of mirtazapine. After suffering from anxiety and panic attacks I finally went to doctors and was prescribed antidepressants - I think they were citalopram not sure of name but they made me worse. I was then prescribed mirtazapine they took a good few weeks to kick in. I've been taking 15mg for nearly 2 years now and feel miles better in myself. I am now able to go to the shops on my own, get a bus alone and even got a full time job. Here comes the down side, I've put a stone and a half on gone from 9 and half to 11. The actual drug doesn't make you gain weight it's the food you crave. So I'm determined to try and combat that with a healthier diet. She says haha...also the dreams are horrendous and it does take me a good hour to ^come round^ when I get up. Saying this but it is all worth while as I now feel I have my life back . I hope this helps. Keep at it as it will be worthwhile in the end. Wishing you all well Paula x"

For Anxiety "I have experienced severe anxiety+ extreme panic attacks/disorder for the last 7 years. I have tried a few different antidepressants over the years (sertraline, venaflaxine and Citalopram) these just did not agree with me at all, made my panic 100% worse. The doctor then mentioned mirtazapine. Let me tell you something, for the last 7 years of my life I have not been me. I have been extremely depressed, suicidal, could not cope in my own head any more. I would avoid going to places , it broke down my relationships with friends , partners and work. I have now been on mirtazapine 15mg for just over a week. I noticed a huge change from the first dose I finally felt like myself again. No panic, I feel calm through out the day, boost my mood and I am smiling enjoying life again, something I have not done in 7 years. Please do not let the negative reviews put you off, this saved my life and could save yours too. I know exactly how you feel going through this Good luck xx"

For Anxiety "I was terrified of trying this, or anything, because of the horrid comments on this board. For those of us who suffer with depression, anxiety, or insomnia, please be sensitive to the fact that people are reading your comments and not all meds affect everyone the same. It would help tremendously if you could just let us know if it did or didn’t work. With that said, I decided to try it. I’m not one to take meds & I was afraid. I was pleasantly surprised to see the only thing that happened was my anger & anxiety calmed down, sleep was great, and my sex drive is awesome. Hubby is happy too, lol. I’ve always been slim built and food doesn’t excite me, so no changes there. All in all, for those of you terrified by the horrible comments, don’t let it stop you. Everyone’s reaction is different."

For Anxiety "I'm a 35 year old male with a history of panic and anxiety. Have tried a number of meds, including SSRI's and Benzos. Today is day 14 on this medication the dose is a half a tablet (15mg) mirtazapine. I have been taking it around 8pm every night, and it certainly reduces then amount of time it has taken to get to sleep every night. I am also sleeping throughout the night. Some sleepiness and flu like symptoms during the day. On day 11, I woke up with a desire to clean my house. I haven't had a desire to carry out any activities to completion for a while. On day 12, I went and had a coffee with a friend, and proceeded to spend the entire day away from the house, seeing a movie, doing some grocery shopping, then having dinner with another friend. This kind of desire to get out and do things, or complete tasks is a fairly new thing for me. I am also finding that this is having an impact on reducing pain. I have a separate chronic pain issue and have had zero desire to take my opiate medication for pain."

For Insomnia "I went through a really difficult time due to having severe insomnia, I was sleeping between 0 - 2 hours every night for 3 months, no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't sleep. I've never felt exhaustion like it, I felt mentally and physically unwell. I was not myself at all, and I became incredibly anxious. I actually believe having had this experience that insomnia itself can be due to a chemical imbalance as it felt like my body was constantly in awake mode. I took a course of sleeping pills but they didn't work, I was then prescribed 15mg Mirtazapine, and they have helped me so much, I've been taking it for 7 months now. I began to feel calm and relaxed within a week on taking them. I was terrified of the side effects, but they were very short lived, I had a couple of nightmares to begin with... but at least I slept, a true nightmare is not sleeping. It really helps me to sleep, I sleep well every night now, and I feel great. I am truly thankful I took this medicine."

For Anxiety "I was prescribed mirtazapine for GAD and OCD. Over the last 20 or so years I have tried most of the SSRIs, and they have either stopped working for me after a time or the side effects made them unsuitable for me. My psychiatrist suggested I try mirtazapine as I have issues with sleep as well, and also chronic gastritis, so I needed something that wouldn't make my insomnia worse and also wouldn't cause gastric side effects. I started on 7.5mg before bed, and will increase slowly. The first few days I was very drowsy, but after a week I feel back to normal. I haven't had the munchies yet, that may come at a higher dose, I'm not sure. But overall I feel great so far, and haven't felt the effects of coming off my previous medication either, which is great. I am really sensitive to medication so I was really relieved to be feeling like myself again so quickly. Overall a great experience so far."

For Depression "I am going through something major in my life right now. I am extremely depressed (not suicidal). I cry a lot. Could not get more than 4 hours of sleep. Also I felt completely worthless due to the chaos in my life recently. I felt like I was falling apart. I am not a fan of medications. But I knew I needed the extra pick me up. I was prescribed Merrazapine. And let me tell you. I now get amazing sleep! I do not feel hopeless I’m not crying. I feel like I can get through my struggle without stressing myself out. My dose of mirtazapine is 15mg 1x a day before bed. I am extremely satisfied."

For Insomnia "Hey guys , I’ve been taking Remeron for around 3 years. Best thing I’ve ever done . From day one I was peacefully falling asleep without anxiety! I love it. It helps me feel happy, calm and ready for bed. In the beginning I felt kinda fatigued the next day. I certainly slept a lot at first but I needed it , I would sleep 10 hours! but with any drug it takes time to adjust to it! It’s been amazing ! I have not put on weight , at the start I was on a dose of 15 milligrams , I was getting the munchies very bad cut down to 7.5mg and the munchies stopped, but after while and some stress in my life I started not sleeping again. Been on 30mg now for around two years and it’s my perfect dose, yes I get the munchies , but I workout most days and just try hard not to go overboard with food but enjoy feeling good and a few treats. I have energy to burn now I get good sleep every night. It’s a dream come true . Thank you it’s chae ."

For Anxiety "Mirtazapine got me out of a suicidal depression/anxious spiral! I was sleeping less than 2 hours a night - my anxiety was escalating and my mood was plummeting at an alarming rate. Mirtazapine stopped my breakdown in its tracks! I took 1 x 15mg tablet & slept through the night for the first time in months. I woke up feeling 40% better but I was sedated until midday - this faded over the next few weeks. I had a big appetite for the first month but that eased off. I started exercising again which was a result of both my boosted mood and energy levels. The sedation still stays with my until 10 or 11am but my quality of life has improved so much!!! I've put on 5lbs but I had lost half a stone. You have to weigh up the pros & cons. I'd rather have more of an appetite than be unable to eat because I'm shaking with unbearable anxiety. I've tried all the SSRIs & SNRIs and mirtazapine was the fastest acting plus no gastro or sexual side effects"

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Depression "I really like this medication. I‘d always been wary of antidepressants because of the well known side effects but being an SSRI I gave this one a shot. Never looked back. Gained maybe 8 pounds but you cant tell because I look and feel so much healthier and happier. Little to no side effects other than that 8 pounds, I can finally sleep again. Woke up a little dizzy in the morning for the first 2 or 3 weeks but it doesn't happen anymore. You probably WON'T ever forget to take it and you won’t be able to sleep without it once you’re on it, but my quality of life is so much higher I don't mind"

For Insomnia "I was able to fall asleep in 15 minutes but I couldn't sleep through the night. If I woke up at 2am to use bathroom, that was it, I was awake and ready to go go go. I usually worked 8am - 8pm but after sleepless nights I was exhausted by noon. I tried Trazadone, Melatonin, Valium, & Benadryl, but nothing worked well for me. My doctor suggested mirtazapine so the first dose I took was 7.5mg and it knocked me out. A couple days later I cut the 15 mg pill in quarters and it was still too much for me. Now I cut a 7.5mg tab in 1/4 . So I'm basically taking a little under 2mg. I take it at 8pm, go to bed at 10pm and I sleep through the night without a groggy hangover. Works for me."

Remeron (mirtazapine) for Major Depressive Disorder "I have been on Remeron for 5 weeks. Before taking this I had extreme anxiety, I felt like I had a steel band tightening around my midriff, heart beating like it was going to explode, shaking when I had to go out and lack of sleep. Now on this I have the confidence to go out, my heart rate feels normal and thank goodness the steel band has disappeared. I hope this has been helpful to someone out there, good luck"

For Anxiety "After a run of horrific life experiences, I had terrible panic attacks and went to hospital emergency several time thinking I was having a heart attack. Interestingly, I started on 15mg and could hardly wake during the day, missed meetings and appointments as I'd sleep through them. My doctor told me that paradoxically, the drowsiness tends to stop at a higher dose. I started 30mg and almost immediately my energy in the morning came back. I haven't had any panic attacks and have achieved more in the last 6 months than I had the 3 years prior. I'm laughing and enjoying life. If you feel tired and low in energy on the low dose, then ask your doctor about a higher dose. Don't give up on this. This medicine has given me my life back."
