Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I have had very severe chronic constipation for over two years that has just seemed to get worse and worse over time. I've tried Amitiza on a few occasions over the last couple years and each time has been a awful experience. It works but it takes about 3 days and those 3 days are unbearable. Horrible gas and bloating, headaches, cramps, nausea, not to mention the pain in my back and sides from the severe bloating. I gave a friend some of my samples and it worked wonders for her, she had none of those side effects. Everyone is different, it's always worth a try.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Irritable Bowel Syndrome: I used this medication. After the second pill, I began to feel an awful feeling in my stomach that worked itself all the way up to my throat. My tongue swelled and I had to take a Benadryl to counteract this allergic reaction. Just wanted to alert others to this just in case it happens to them.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Irritable Bowel Syndrome: I take 8 mg, 2 pills a day; 1 teaspoon of milk of magnesia at night; worked great for a month, then stopped. I am either not going or runny stools; TERRIBLE gas and bloating; affecting my entire life; I take gas-x and charcoal tablets daily; no real consistent relief but runny stools is better than nothing for me; no nausea with food.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I began taking Amitiza twice a day in 2007 and like others in this room swore by Zelnorm. My experience has been great, although it seems I need to stop taking it for a few days every 4 to 6 months to reboot, so to speak, as it begins to diminish effectiveness. I'm curious if the extra long colon plays into our problems? I deal with this as well.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I have had chronic back pain for years, taking pain pills and was always constipated. I was miserable. My doctor prescribed Amitiza and I have had excellent results. No more straining and trying one laxative after another. Absolutely no side effects. What a great medicine!

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I am 71 and have had constipation all of my life. I've tried OTC products (all of them) and even some prescription products. I take 4 of this per week with plenty of water. More give me some cramps. However, my constipation is finally under control. It isn't easy, but I do get results about 4 times a week. That beats 1 or 2 with a lot of bleeding from strain. I may increase to 7 times per week and see if the cramping stops. I have a superlong colon which has caused the chronic constipation.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I've on this medication for a full week and I haven't had any results yet. I'm drinking lots of water as I always do, and staying active.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: Had side effects - not even understanding it was from this medication. Went to Doctors many times with flu like, systems and breathing problems with chest pains. After stopping this medication after being on it for months, it has now been a week, my breathing still has not returned to normal as of yet. PLEASE if you have any flu like symptoms, breathing problems, or even seem to just have a change in your voice, stop taking this medicine and see your doctor.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: Have taken it for one day and I feel better already. When you go to the bathroom once a week, you look for anything that will help. It's Tuesday and 2 movements already this week. It's great.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I have been on pain medicines for the last 6 and 1/2 years. My doctor finally gave me some samples of Amitiza. When I haven't gone in so many days, I just take two pills late in the evening and they work great in the morning. I haven't noticed any side effects at all.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Irritable Bowel Syndrome: I started taking Amitiza about 4 months ago. It has been a miracle worker for me. I have had IBS for over 20 years. I just turned 40 last week and decided I had to figure something out, the doctors just do not take me seriously. For the first 3 months I took 2 pills a day then I switched to 1 in the am, and benefiber in the pm and its the same result. I go at least once a day, some days twice. I totally recommend it. Its better than what any doctor has ever done for me.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I noticed on the previous reviews that nausea and headache are a problem. I had those too when I first starting using amitiza but have learned that you MUST take it with a FULL meal and drink lots of water and both side effects won't happen. I love the results!!

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: If taken as prescribed, it worked wonders. I am very happy my doctor had me try this. I've taken so many over the counter drugs, with a lot worse side affects. This works for me.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I've been taking this medicine for about 6 months, and it has made a world of a difference. I've had constipation for over 8 years, I'm in my late 20s, healthy, female, & moderately active. Things that normally would give others runny diarrhea, like prune juice, I would barely see any effect. After being tired of painful amounts of fiber intake & OTC stool softeners that didn't help enough, my doctor put me on this twice a day, & it works great. I had few side effects, and only for about a week.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I found Amitiza moderately effective as a laxative, mostly just reducing straining. The side effects were outstanding, however. Abdominal sensations went from offensive to extremely pleasant. I spent the whole week that my presciption lasted laying around feeling like a cat in front of the fireplace. I don't think my doctor approved.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I just began taking Amitiza and had immediate results. I've stuggled with this condition all of my life. No side effects except I feel a bit tired. If that's all I have to deal with, that's fine with me. The alternative is much worse.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: I would be much happier if nausea wasn't a part of this. That's the one side effect that makes it hard to deal with.

Amitiza (lubiprostone) for Constipation, Chronic: A person has to decide if it is worth the less serious side affects of nausea and headache and I have to say that it is. It is brief and therefore, I feel that the alternative is much worse. It has only been a full week and I am hoping these less serious side affects will subside eventually when I get used to taking it on a regular basis.
