For Diabetes, Type 2 "I have type 2 diabetes; last year my Hb1Ac was 6.7. I was started on metformin and I had loose stools, liver problems and it wasn't even doing a great job for BG. I was then started on glipizide and I have no side effects and now Hb1Ac is 5.8"

Glucotrol (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I have taken it for over 10 years and I have had excellent results and I am still taking the amount that I was started on and my readings average 95. If you can beat that with another medicine please let me know what it is."

GlipiZIDE XL (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "When I first started taking Glipizide-ER 5mg along with Trulicity- once a week, also metformin 1000mg in a.m. and 1000 mg at night. My blood sugars (BS) was dropping to 100-110. I also have insulin as needed on a sliding scale. I refilled my medicine, but maybe a different manufacturer, my BS are reading 195-255. I'm constipated, moody as heck, dizzy in the morning. I bounce off the walls like a pinball machine, not to mention that I have gained a lot of weight. I have not changed my diet, not much exercise because I feel like rubbish all the time. Tonight I threw the medicine in the trash. It's bad stuff with too many side effects."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I was given this medication many years ago when a doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. In the end it was a wrong diagnosis and it ruined my life. I became hypoglycemic and so today I continue to suffer. Never, ever take any kind of medication without research. Now as a senior citizen I find that we are just guinea pigs for the pharmaceutical companies. Always check what Europeans use and will not use. In the United States we use GMO’s in our foods, our children are at risk. Be very aware of the dangers with autism on the rise, cancer in all of us. Stay away from New medications that have been on the market for less than 10 years."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I got the shock of my life when I had blood work done and my sugar read in the 8.0 range. I received a call from the ER telling me I had to come in immediately for an insulin shot. I almost ran there. I went on Glipizide 5 mg., taken twice a day. I was not happy. I knew my weight had a lot to do with it, so I went on a diet. I went from 180 to 100 pounds. My doctor also put me on Metformin. All that did was make me vomit. Today, I control my sugar levels by diet alone. My doctor asks me about every six months if I would be willing to go back on the Metformin. "No thanks. Vomiting is not my favorite activity. Today I am able to keep my A1c around 6.0-6.1. If I can do it so can you. Lose the weight."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "About six months ago, my doctor added glipizide to my existing regimen of Janumet 50/1000. While on glipizide, my blood pressure skyrocketed from 117/79 to 170/99 -- I still had the same healthy eating habits, same 5-day/wk workouts. My blood pressure became such a problem that my doctor urged me visit a cardiologist who then tried to add a blood pressure medication to list of meds. So, my most recent check up was visit a few days ago and my A1C was low enough that I insisted that we nix the glipizide. The very next day my blood pressure was back to 115/75."

GlipiZIDE XL (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I started taking Glipizide ER initially with instructions to take it only if my blood glucose level was 180 or higher. I did not have to take it every day, but took it several times a week. Then I was started having a hard time controlling my daily glucose levels. My Hg A1c was higher, so the instructions were changed to 2 in the a.m. and 1 at night. I purchased the medication from a different source and it was a larger pill with now Glipazide XL instead of ER. I have experienced a number of side effects and feel worse with it than before I started taking it. The longer I have taken it the worse I feel. I feel drugged, want to sleep all the time, have a slight headache, more thirsty, constipation on occasion, dry eyes, and more. Yuck!"

Glucotrol (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I've been taking glipizide for two weeks. It is effective in lowering blood sugar and helps with post prandial spikes. It works fast, sometimes too fast and has forced me to modify the timing and quantity of my meals."

GlipiZIDE XL (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I have taken Glipizide and Glipizide XL in conjunction with metformin for a number of years with no side effects. Anyone taking Glipizide (not XL) should be aware that blood sugar levels can plummet quickly and that dosage timing may need to be readjusted. With Glipizide XL, I have not experienced these fluctuations; however, the positive control appears to take effect much slower as this is a time-released form."

GlipiZIDE XL (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I have used Glipizide XL for about 6 years now as a secondary medicine. Glipizide helps to keep my blood sugar numbers within range and keeps me from having to use insulin as much as I would without it, which is a good thing. I haven't had any side effects from the glipizide at all. I'm very happy with this medication."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I was originally on Metformin 500mg. It got to a point where my A1C was going up so my dr put me on 1000mg (1x in the morning and 1x with dinner). My stomach couldn't handle it. My blood sugar levels were up and down. So I asked my dr if I could try something else. She put me on 2.5mg Glipizide ER and I feel so much better on it! I don't have the stomach issues and my blood sugar levels are lower and more stable. I'm glad I switched to Glipizide! I won't know my A1C until December but I expect it to be much better."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "Glipizide works very well in lowering my blood sugar but I gained lot of weight. I thought it was for my normal body change. Until I started feeling terrible with this new big body. I asked my doctor about it, he changed my medicine. I had gained 60 pounds in a year!! When I stopped glipizide I lost first month 20 pounds, and I'm still losing more. Not more glipizide. It is not for me."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I was afraid to take glipizide because of weight gain. I’ve had no issues and with effort, lost weight. It is fast acting, so I take it before breakfast. No issues of too low glucose levels. Although depending on my numbers in the am, I may only take a half pill instead of whole of 10mg."

GlipiZIDE XL (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "My Dr. insisted I switch to Glipizide XLfrom glyburide. Well, this drug is NOT working at all for me even at an increased dosage. My fasting glucose readings are 100 to 150 points higher than when I was on glyburide. But try telling and convincing a Dr. they're wrong."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "Four years ago I tried Metformin for my type 2 diabetes and had a horrific reaction, severe fainting, stomach pains, diarrhea, cramps, and discontinued. Tried a second time a few weeks later, had same horrrific reaction. This week I started Glipizide and in five days I see a drop in my insulin to 115 from 346 at the start of the week. NO pains, cramps, diarrhea, and can't believe it. Feels like a miracle after my metformin experience."

GlipiZIDE XL (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I was originally on metformin 500mg one daily when my A1C went to 7%. This didn't help so my doctor added glipizide 5mg once daily to my regimen. Both my sugars and A1C did not come down. Then again I didn't change my eating habits or start exercising (but I am tall and thin, no weight problem here). After too much GI trouble I stopped taking the metformin and told my doctor I'd never take it again. So, he upped my glipizide to ER 10mg once daily. After changing my diet pretty dramatically (cut out refined sugars and carb intake) my sugars came down. However, now I'm having quite a few hypoglycemic attacks. Scary ones like with a BS of 31. And I live alone. So that's worrying me now. Maybe my adjusted diet has resulted in me not needing 10mg but maybe 5mg daily again? It's kind of scary though. I moved so I have to find new doctors and get new blood work so I'm hoping to hang in there and then learn possibly to not be so extreme in my eating and if the dose should go down."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "Was taken off of 2000mg of Metformin, which was controlling my diabetes well due to kidney failure. Placed on Glipizide 5mg XR. Well, my blood sugars SOARED, regardless of what I've eaten. Almost no carbs eaten in the meal? I am looking at a 2 hour # in the 200's. I get no nighttime support with this med and have seen my morning sugars rise to the 180-190 range. I emailed my doc with the PDF of a months worth of readings ( 4x a day) and she added a 500mg Metformin back to nighttime. I go back in a week to have a blood test for kidney function and I hope we can go back to Metformin because this med is useless for me. Oh and every once in a while, I get the random drop - down to the 70's. No rhyme or reason to it. I had to start carrying glucose tabs after one scary drop in a meeting."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "I have been on metformin for 6 years started at 500 mg per day. Now at 1,000 mg twice per day. Was holding glucose level at 135 with a A1C of 6.4 but my A1C keeps going up more at 7.2 now. Doctor said to now take glipizide 2.5 mg in addition to 2,000mg of metformin to bring A1C down. Have now been on both medicines for about two weeks. I had a very bad drop in glucose to 73 first day in a four hour span after eating. I drank juice to bring up glucose level. Next day it was worse glucose dropped to 51. Had very bad side effects, ate some jelly and 4 oz juice. Next day I decided to not take metformin with breakfast only 2.5 mg glipizide. Sugar held good for 6 hours but then dropped to 69. Ate supper early - this worked."

Glucotrol (glipizide) for Diabetes, Type 2 "I was on Glucotrol 5 mgs but my levels were still too high. We raised to 10 mgs. My levels got under control for a while then my night time sugar levels fell way too much, many more nights of 50 or lower so we dropped back to 5 mgs. Works like a dream when I remember foods I could have at 10 mgs are not allowable at 5 mgs. I like this med much much better than metformin. No side effects with my Glipizide ER."

For Diabetes, Type 2 "In general my glucose control was better but I was getting hypoglycemic during the day, especially after exercising, both manifested by shakiness, sweating, desperate need for snack, empty-headedness. Started bringing my glucose testing kit everywhere with me and found my glucose as low as 54 at the times I checked it. Sometimes I was too shakey to test; fortunately my gym had hard candy which I hate but had to take. I had been on 5 mg twice daily along with Metformin 1000 mg long acting in the evening. Turns out the geriatric dose can be 2.5 mg before breakfast. I may try that since my glucoses are 140-150 off of glipizide despite exercise and mostly plant-based diet whereas it had been 104-116 on it (but hypoglycemia intolerable"
