"The first 6 months of Nenxplanon were amazing! I had a regular period no weight gain no side effects but after the 6 month point I realized lost over 20lbs of weight , I had dizziness it turned into depression & severe anxiety, Given I had a history of mental health issues I guessed it was just an episode although I've never had anxiety and I was never scared. I didn't even know what a panic attack was before Nexplanon but now after dealing with this for 8+mo I needed answers why I was 2 anxious to go grocery shopping, I couldn't go out if it was dark, couldn't fall asleep because I was scared of sleep paralysis & was too scared at work for absolutely NO REASON. So I finally remembered oh I'm on birth control so lemme see what the side effects are & sure enough there are 100s of women experiencing the same thing! So I had it removed almost instantly I felt calm but still had moderate anxiety & now almost a year later I'm FINALLY getting over the little jitters. So ladies please be careful with this if you experience any depression/Mania/anxiety HAVE IT REMOVED!Much love hope this helped because reading these comments really did help me"

"I've had Nexplanon going on 2 years and have had no issues. I have not had a period since it was put in. Only side effect I have had is my headaches have become stronger than when I didn't have it in. I would recommend this to everyone and plan on having another put in after the 3 years is up."

"The worst experience of my entire life!! I have always struggled with anxiety a little but I have always been on some kind on contraception since an early age due to acne and looking back I don’t think the hormones ever really helped my anxiety but this time last year I was so happy, the happiest I had ever been . I then got the implant and the nightmare of side effects started. • extremely emotional • Thrush • extreme acne / oily hair • low libido • EXTREME anxiety • Awful intrusive thoughts • weight gain • my arm where the implant is itches constantly I never write reviews but I don’t want anyone to feel how I have for the past 10 months."

"I had Nexplanon fitted in February, so have had it for about three months now. At first I had little desire for sex, and had irregular bleeding. Since they have both cleared up, I've actually lost weight and my breasts have grown, I sometimes get a little spotting but never a full blown period, and overall I think it's a brilliant method of contraception. It's quite surprising to see so many bad reviews! Hopefully I won't develop any more side effects."

"I have had Nexplanon since January 9th and so its been a little over 2 months since I've gotten it inserted. I was nervous about getting it inserted but the whole process is a breeze, so if you are considering it don't worry about that! For 2 months, I bled almost every day but it wasn't bad. As time went on, it was less and less. I've read other reviews where they said they bleed everyday and was horrified about that happening to me, but it was hardly noticeable. Sex wise- I haven't gotten pregnant and this is the only form of protection my boyfriend and I use. Also, I didn't get any acne but for the first month, I would get nauseous easily after doing cardio or even after having 1 alcoholic beverage. But that has gotten a lot better."

"It's been 18 months I have this birth control. I will never regret having it. Since the day I had it I did not have any bleeding and my mood was not affected. The best option ever!"

"I've had Nexplanon for 4 months and I don't regret it. I was scared by the negative reviews but I got it anyway. My experience has been SO POSITIVE. Insertion was quick and painless other than the lidocaine shot which stings momentarily. I had been on my normal flow period (day 3) when I got the implant. Bleeding stopped completely within 3 hours. I spotted lightly for about 2 weeks straight beginning 8 days after insertion but then it went away and I've had ZERO bleeding since then. I lost 30lbs almost effortlessly since getting the implant. The first 10 lbs came off in the first week without dieting. I had to work a little for the rest but I think Nexplanon actually helped balance my pre-existing body chemistry problems and made it easier."

"I got the Nexplanon I thought it would help. It was great at first then two days after I got it my vision was going crazy, I got dizzy and I had a lot of mood swings. And I looked up some of these side effects they are crazy. I think this birth control needs to be more looked into and maybe have less side effects. If it works for you great but if it doesn’t please take it out. It’s not worth having it in your arm if you feel miserable. And I know every woman is different but please be aware."

"I got the Nexplanon about 3 months ago, I'm gonna break down my list of issues. I have been bleeding/spotting every since then, total change in my hair texture (bad), Acne which I have always had clear skin, always feeling down, weight gain, weak, and no energy whatsoever. I have done everything but the Depo Provera shot, I guess I just gotta take my chances. Wish I didn't have to take it out but I can't deal with ALL.... the side effects. Hope this helps anyone."

"I'm on my third one and I've gotta tell you I like it. My doctor prescribed a med. to stop heavy periods or very long periods, I take a pill and they stop. It has not affected my sex drive and everything else is going good."

"I would like to personally warn anyone considering this format of birth control at first I was very excited the thought of having birth control and not having to take a pill. I had the implant done on a Wednesday by Friday I already had all of the "less than common" symptoms. I broke out in hives I had migraines that lasted all day I was dizzy by Saturday my blood pressure was so high I almost had a heart attack I have no history of surgeries or heart attacks yet there I was in the ER. I had it removed as soon as possible I only had it for 9 days and it was the worst 9 days of my life. I WILL NEVER CHOOSE THIS PATH AGAIN. It should come with a sign labeled might cause death."

"I've been on Nexplanon for 4 months and taking it out. I get headaches everyday, I'm on medium to light periods the WHOLE month (always bloated), and I'm losing a lot of hair not the average amount of hair loss after a pregnancy...also regular acne breakouts which I didn't have. Everyone is different."

"I had it removed less than a week ago. I never thought twice about my mood while on it (I thought it was just how I was or have always been). Until my relationship started getting rocky due to my anxiety, obsessiveness and easy triggering over the most minor inconveniences. It was hard for me to have a good day even when I tried. I had emotional breakdowns every day & my period lasted forever, blood clots & spotting in between every cycle. But at least I knew I wasn’t getting pregnant. Since removed it literally feels as if dark clouds were lifted from above me. It’s crazy to think how many good moments I’ve missed out on or ruined due to my mood swings the past 2 years. No more obsessive thoughts or anxiety or unjustified rage & no depression. It’s a great birth control. I just wish the mood swings & depression that come along with it are not a thing. I’m happy to know that now I’m not an angry raging female. Just a female that was dealing with all of its negative side affects."

"I got the nexplanon inserted on 7/19/19 and I'm scheduled to get it taken out tomorrow. Since this past Saturday I've had severe anxiety (specifically about death). I can't sleep, I wake up with terrible thoughts and all day at work I can't think straight. I hold my kids tight and all I do is cry. I just keep thinking about death, and it's all I've been thinking about."

"I've had my nexplanon for over a year now, it's very effective against not getting pregnant and that's the best part only. I have 2 periods a month, one light one heavy. I randomly bleed as well as cramp horribly before I start. I've had headaches, nausea, hives, nasal sinus issues, depression, mood swings, weight gain, loss of appetite, peeling skin on my face, dandruff, rash on my arm, constantly itching, loss of sex drive, tiredness and the list continues. "I've been on Nexplanon for about a year now. I bled constantly the first 9 months along with acne and horrible cramps. Hot flashes, as well. Now my period just doesn't come at all yet I still get the horrible cramps often. I have no sex drive and I feel like my hair/face is always greasy. I haven't gained any weight which is the only plus."

"I just wanted to post on here to combat the predominantly negative comments I have been reading about nexplanon. Of course, all our bodies are different but often people only post when they have had a negative experience. I have had it put in, no side effects and feel really ‘stable’. Quick and easy to put it. The bruising did last two weeks and looked quite bad but it didn’t hurt, just looked rather purple! There is a little bit of itching but for those of you who have had scars heal before, you will know this is just normal healing and as long as you don’t panic or read too much into it you will be fine! No periods, no hassle and absolutely no weight gain ( I have even lost weight, I do watch what I eat and ultimately you will only gain weight if you eat too many calories!). I hope this reassured some people. I’m sure it’s not for everyone but please know it is used by many people successfully too!"

"I got this put in roughly 7 months ago, and honestly I've had no problems at all. I was, like many, nervous because of all the horror stories I heard about bleeding and moodiness and decreased sex drive, but decided to try it. I have had no prolonged bleeding, I get a 3-4 day long period once a month. I am not moody at all which is great, because the pill made me crazy. And I haven't noticed a significant difference in my sex drive, though it has decreased a little - my boyfriend and I have had no problems. I'm glad my body reacted positively to this, because it is a very efficient method of birth control. I truly recommend at least trying it to see how your body reacts, and be sure to remember to give it some time to settle in."

"Getting nexplanon means getting stabbed in the arm. It hurts a bit but better than getting a metal spring stuck in your uterus I say. I have been period free since day 1. That's right, no period. I also have not gained any weight, and have had no issues with acne. The thing lasts three years. THREE YEARS! I am worry free, side effect free, and baby free. What more can you ask for?"

"You have to understand that when you look at review pages like this before/right after getting the implant in worry the negative reviews will outweigh the positive simply because when you have a bad experience you want to warn others and most people enjoying life with Nexplanon don't return to the review page that terrified them when they first got the implant. I saw this very page and worried I would have a bad time on the implant boy was I wrong! No period for 6 months and then a light one on the 7th with period pain on only one day of that period. The implantation site is still there if you look but no pain or discomfort. Definitely better than the pill that I was on prior for period pain. Talk to your doctor and make your own choice! GL"
