Reviews for Lo Loestrin Fe to treat Birth Control
Review by Shea1234:
I started this pill to alleviate migraines and prevent pregnancy. Overall, my experience with this pill has been wonderful from day one. I don't have any breakouts, no migraines, no weight gain, and I haven't gotten my period once in the seven months I've been on it. The downside: I'm overly emotional. I will cry over a commercial, now. And I'm paranoid all the time of being pregnant.
I've only been on Lo Loestrin for a couple months, but I am very pleased so far. With other pills (and I've been on plenty) I break out, gain weight, am extremely moody, but this one has been a breeze. My skin looks great, haven't gained weight (my breasts are slightly bigger), and my mood is great. I think I finally found a pill that works for me. Also love that they offer a coupon card which makes my payment $35!
This is my second time around on this. I took it about 3 yrs ago for a full year and totally loved it, hence why I got back on it. This time it was a much different experience. The 3 months I was on it was constant breakthrough bleeding pretty much every single day. About 8-10lbs weight gain (fairly active, in my late 20s, eat clean). Sex drive was non existent. No acne, thankfully. I also experienced some depression, never suicide but just down and blue most days. I am switching to Microgestin Fe 1/20 because OB said Lo Loestrin may have been too low of a dosage for me.
The first month was the worst. I had a lot if mood swings and very tender breasts. After that the side effects have been very minimal. I no longer have my period, but around the time I used to get my period every month I get light cramps. I also get very tender breasts during this time but they have gotten bigger since taking the birth control. The only major complaint I have is that I've had a major decrease in sex drive as well as being very tired in the morning. I switched to this birth control because I got very sick every morning. I like this one much better.
This birth control is good for me, but I did have MAJOR side effects. I had almost constant bleeding for about 4 months, and nausea for the first month. After that though, everything is smooth sailing! The only other complaint I would have is breast tenderness.
I have been on this pill for over a year and I love it! I used to be on the Nuvaring and it was the absolute worst experience. I was constantly crying/arguing/depressed without any reason. I also gained a lot of weight on the ring. I have not gained any weight in Lo Loestrin Fe except for in my breasts. I also have not had any mood swings in comparison to the ones I had before on the ring. My periods (when I do get them, which is rare now) last for 2 days and are super light. A downfall is that since Lo Loestrin Fe is so new it is still pricey without insurance coverage. But it is great and after using it, I'm hesitant to switch to anything else.
I switched to Loestrin to alleviate migraines from my last set of pills, and it worked alright. They aren't as severe but still persist. Otherwise, I have 2 day periods with no cramping, perfect skin, and no mood swings! I recommend it if you have any issues with acne, cramping, or irregularity.
I've been trying to find the right birth control for me for about 3 years now and this is by far my favorite! I've been on it for three months and it's helped me a lot with my cramps, I barely even have any, and when I do they are very manageable. I didn't gain any weight and I didn't have any breakouts. I did have some mood swings in the first month but by the second month I didn't have any. I did have a little breakthrough bleeding the first month but that only lasted about two days. I just finished my third pack and I have to say, it's amazing. I didn't have any cramps and I also didn't have a period! YAY! It's a keeper.
I have been on this bc for 3 months and it's been the worst 3 months of my life! I had pretty clear skin before taking this but now it's awful! I have tons of small pimples all over my forehead and chin and big pimples on my back. It has also left bad scars on my face. As far as weight goes I haven't gained any weight. I've lost weight if anything. I am switching at the end of my pack because I just can't handle the awful acne!!
I read a few of the reviews on this page and many said that in the first month or so they had terrible acne! This is also true with me but this is the only birth control I've been on where my skin is 100% clear after about month three! I also always suffered from SEVERE mood swings with other birth control- crying over nothing, bouts of rage, extreme insecurity- but this is so much better. The only downside is that for some reason I am very tired especially in the morning- it's almost impossible to wake up even with 8 hrs. But the changes in my mood outweigh the tiredness! Great for people who have a lot of bad side effects with other birth controls!
In high school I took Loestrin 24 FE and never had any skin problems, my skin was always clear. I was switched to Lo Loestrin which has lower hormones and I guess it messed up all my hormones because I started breaking out in the worst cystic acne. A new pimple would come up every day. Now it is out of control and I'm starting to develop dark spots (scarring) from the cystic acne.
I got on this birth control around 6 months ago. I had no problems. It took about three months to adjust. I don't get periods on it. Unfortunately after 3 months I began putting on weight rapidly (around 15 lbs in two months) which is a lot for my small frame. Despite working out 6 days a week and eating clean, I could not lose the weight. Other than the weight gain this was a great pill. The only reason I'm changing is because of the severe weight gain.

I am about halfway through my 2nd pack of Lo Loestrin Fe. The first month, I had minor spotting on one day, no big deal. I also noticed that I had a couple of pimples but since there were only a couple, I figured it could have been my normal hormonal changes during the month. However, halfway through this second month and my chin/mouth area has never had such acne! I had occasional acne, like many people, but 90% of the time my skin was clear before. Now I feel like I wake up everyday with a new batch of red spots. I want to stop this pill now (midpack), but don't want to give myself menstrual issues at the same time so I'm trying to stick it out until the end of the pack.

After being on a rather absurd amount of birth controls in the past 6 years, this was the only one that didn't cause me to have yeast infections. Most obgyn's do not believe birth control can cause yeast infections, but After 30 days of remaining on Lutera and Diflucan, I believe mine was convinced. I was given Lo Loestrin and I have not had a single yeast infection for 6 months. I don't feel as moody on this birth control, and my body acts as though I'm not even on birth control. This is a negative for me because I have no breasts without a high dose of hormones. Overall I think its wonderful, and I recommend this if you have the same issues as I experienced with other birth controls. I did experience acne when starting, on the second month I had none.
The first month was great! It really helped with my PMS mood swings, which were awful!
HAd a short period with regular bad cramps but was elated that it helped my depressive mood swings, which is why I started taking it. Now I'm in my 2nd month, on my 2nd week and am bleeding and bloated! Feeling more bloated than usual too.
Have been bleeding for four days now. Am hoping it will stop and even out because the aiding of my former mood swings is wonderful!

I loved this pill at first, it got rid if my terrible cramps. A few months after, however, I had two periods each month. Now I have a period every other week. The birth control pill is a hit-or-miss type of business.

Lo Loestrin = Acne cysts! I have always had clear skin [with the occasional break out, but nothing serious] and since switching to this pill about 12 months ago, I've had a never ending cycle of painful and ugly red blemishes. My dermatologist assessed my skin and after two minutes with me determined that I had Lo Loestrin skin. She said it is absolutely the worst for skin because of its significantly lower estrogen levels. Anyway, I just wanted to share this knowledge. I'm switching back to Yasmin.

Review by Ctedbush (taken for 6 months to 1 year):
Before I tried this pill I tried so many others and the experiences were bad. This is the only pill that I feel like myself on! It probably is because this is the lowest dose pill available. Why put extra hormones in your body if you can prevent pregnancy and lighten periods with the minimal amount of hormones? I really like it! I've recommended it to several friends and they are liking it too!

I switched to this birth control from Yaz because my periods (although controlled) were still 7-8 days long and heavy. When I switched to this pill I gained about 8 lbs, was intensely moody, and noticed my hair and skin became extremely oily. I was on it for 4 months and it only got worse. I had breakthrough bleeding the entire time. The second month I was on it I bled for 2 weeks straight. It was absolutely miserable. I know birth control affects every person differently, but this was AWFUL for me.

I have been on this pill for about a year and a half now... At first, my periods were heavy and irregular but now I am down to a regular cycle of one really light period every month (lasting about 2-3 days max). Before I started the pill, I had problems with acne and now I have virtually none at all. No weight gain. The only negative side effects that I've experienced are some weird mood swings every now and then. But for me, this pill is everything I could have hoped for, just wish it were a little cheaper.

first off, let me start by saying that I am sensitive to hormones. I cant seem to find one that doesnt make me sick, or extremely moody. I was put on this for Endometriosis pain, and the first day I took it, ate with it and was fine. The second ay I took it, I also ate with it, about 8pm, I went to bed at midnight and woke up at 4 am sick to my stomach, shaking and my heart racing, just like I have before with another pill and was vomiting for about 2 hours. I am now, 2 days later, bleeding and my period wasnt suppose to be here until 2 weeks from now !!! . It doesnt feel like a period, but its not fun either. Wouldnt reccomend for anyone who is hormone sensitive,.
Ugh. I am really disappointed because I had high hopes for this pill. My doctor told me my periods would be short (around 2 days), and light. Well, my periods did shorten to 2 days; however, I got 3 periods a month. Also, my face erupted with terrrrrrrible cystic acne. Worse than it has ever been in my entire life. I will say that this pill caused virtually no mood swings, which is a HUGE plus compared to previous pills I have tried. I really, truly tried to stick this pill out. I even considered going on accutane to clear up breakouts. But then I realized that the mood swings I gave up with lo loestrin would probably just return due to accutane. My body did not do well adapting to this pill. I've been on this pill 4 months too long :(
