Reviews for NuvaRing to treat Birth Control
Review by Anonymous:
I gave the Nuvaring a 5 rating for a couple of reasons 1) for the first 3 months I was on it, it was fantastic. 2) It gave me the best gift I never knew I was missing, my daughter. But, I didn't have any side effects for the first 3 months - just a rather shocking pregnancy after that.
I first got on the ring when I was 16 then got off when I was 18. I loved it! It made my skin the best it's ever been in my life and I had no weird side effects like mood swings and depression. I think it actually made me less depressed. The only thing was it did make you gain about ten pounds, which is why after two years I went off it. The weight dropped off immediately after I stopped using it. I'm 20 now and I'm considering using it again. Just have to watch what I eat and stay at the gym an extra half hour I guess!
The only negative thing about using the ring is that for me it tends to slowly slide out often. Not totally just enough where I can feel discomfort. Other than that I have had no negative symptoms. It's pretty much idiot proof.
I was just given Nuvaring from my doctor. My last birth control Microgestin, made me severely moody. I'm talking happy go lucky one second then boom, I hate the world the next. I also gained a lot of weight, my periods were terrible along with never on time. I was on this for about six months. My doctor gave me a 2 month sample hoping it would help. So we will see.
As many women know al birth controls have the pros and cons. Nuvaring is great, you don't need to take a pill everyday and you can choose to take it out if you want! I have been on it about a year but I recently stopped taking it because it was so expensive! It was almost 80 dollars at the pharmacy. Now that I'm off birth control I feel a lot less bloated and I have my sex drive back! Pros and cons with everything you put into your body, you just have to decide what's really best for your lifestyle!
Birth control pills affected my mood (I tried many different kinds and all of them made me well up to 7 days into my cycle) and my lifestyle (100 hr a week finance job with high travel) made taking the pill regularly very difficult (I'd sneak out of afternoon meetings to take them because that was the only time I knew I'd definitely be up). Nuvaring turned out to be the BEST solution out there. I can put it in once and forget about it, and its low dose means no more mood swings from birth control! My boyfriend doesn't feel a thing either. At first I was worried about putting it in and taking it out but it turned out to be painless - reminded me of getting used to putting in contact lenses.
I am torn by the Nuvaring. The convenience is great. There is no daily time to take a pill, only once a month which can easily be marked on a calender or put into a phone. It never falls out, I never feel it and changing it is simple, too. I would give the Nuvaring a 10 out of 10 just based upon the simplicity and the price is really reasonable, too. But, there are some downsides (for me personally). For the first few months, I did not notice side effects, although they are there. I have a VERY low tolerance to alcohol when on the Nuvaring. Very emotional, tired, and strung out all the time. I was on the pill before and none of these happened. I also have longer periods. It's worth a try, every girl seems to have a different experience!
I love that Nuvaring is just as effective as the Pill without having to remember it daily. I just put it in and forget about it for three weeks. I have a little more discharge than usual, but it doesn't really bother me and my doc said it's normal. My only complaint is that the second day after putting it in I feel nauseated and when I take it out, I get really moody by the third day. Hopefully, my body will adjust and stop doing this.
I've been on the Nuvaring for 2 years now and I love it! I was previously on Lo-ovral, but after my gastric bypass, my body wouldn't absorb the pill correctly, giving me acne, mood swings, and breakthrough bleeding. My gynecologist suggested the Nuvaring and I've loved it since then,
I have no mood swings, no weight gain. I do get bloating when I'm on my period. I'm a chronic migraine sufferer, but it only pops up in the beginning of my period. I tried to switch back to oral contraceptive last summer because Nuvaring is expensive, even with insurance, but my body didn't tolerate it well. Overall it's a great product. I don't have issues with the ring slipping out. My only issue is the cost.
I have been using the Nuvaring for a year and at first it was great just a little uncomfortable during sex, but got used to it. The last few months I have been getting side affects to the point where I had to stop using it. It gave me anxiety, depression to the point where I felt hopeless and like I had no control of anything so I discontinued using it and side affects are going away and I feel like I have control again. I know every women's body is different so if you feel the same symptoms find another form of birth control.
I've been using Nuva ring for about 2 Months now. For the most part I'm pleased with it. And it's very effective. The only problems that I have is the side effects it may cause. Nausea, headaches and occasional cramps were present. Above all I'm pleased with this method. I was very skeptical about using birth control, but then I talked it over with my doctor and we both agreed that this would be right for me.
I have only good things to say, just a little bad note about stopping. I started using birth control because of heavy and very painful menstrual cycles. I first was on the pill, and I was spotting almost every day for months. My Doctor suggested the ring, and things were great then after. I was on the ring for about a year and decided to stop. After birth control, I had finally become regular. About a year ago I decided to start birth control again because I was becoming more sexually active. I went immediately to the ring again, this time choosing to not have a period, and I love it! No periods or spotting.
I used Nuvaring for almost 3 years and I absolutely loved it. I had no side effects, a lighter period and most importantly it works. I only recently stopped using it because my insurance no longer covers it so the monthly cost is pricey.
I have been using Nuvaring for about 4 months now and have not been very impressed. I have had breakouts the entire time, lower back aches, HORRIBLE mood swings, it has slipped out more than once, and given me terrible anxiety. Since I recently stopped using it all symptoms have stopped and I feel normal again. I hope this helps anyone who is experiencing the same!
I'm 48. Started NuvaRing 4 years ago after my divorce and when I started dating again. Wanted a non daily birth control. I liked not having to take a pill daily, didn't notice it inside me, and had shorter, lighter periods. I QUIT using NuvaRing a few months ago since the man I'm dating had a vasectomy years ago, so birth control isn't an issue for me now. I feel so much better now! I am not swollen, my weight that I put on is falling off, the abdominal discomfort I felt daily is gone, I'm not as moody. I hope my breasts don't go back down a size. Now I suspect these were all NUVARING side effects not post divorce effects after reading the other comments. They started right after I began with Nuvaring. So great idea, but not for everybody, obviously.
I have been using the Nuvaring for almost a year now. I noticed 5 months ago some side effects. Itchy, redness, swelling, discharge, severely uncomfortable vaginally. I have changed soaps, gone to the doctor, did creams, everything to have it go away and I really think its from the ring. I have been a bit depressed but I am not sure if it is from the ring. I am going to ask my doctor to change to the Mirena because I can no longer take the side effects.
I find Nuvaring a good and convenient birth control, have been using it for the last 3 months. I am 37, two kids, married. I have tried all sorts of birth control over the years. It took a month for my cycle to settle (had the copper coil before), absolutely no negative side effects otherwise. If anything, my mood has actually slightly improved. No weight gain, skin good, sex drive the same. My husband can sometimes feel NuvaRing during sex, which is easily resolved by taking it out. I would take it out afterwards anyway to rinse. It is very easy to (re)insert.
I can't feel it when inserted, no problems when exercising (I am doing 1/2 marathons).
For me (age group/hormone levels, lifestyle, etc) NuvaRing is very good.
I have been using this for a year now and love it. I'm horrible at taking pills and with this all I have to do is set an alert on my calendar. There are also 3 doctors in my family and they all recommended Nuvaring saying it's one of the safest and has the least side effects. I love it and recommend it to every girl I know.
I have been on Nuvaring for a little over a year and haven't had any problems until the past couple of months. I've had mood swings, felt very depressed and gained weight. Also I have had heavier periods. A couple of times I have completely bled through a tampon in less than an hour. I am looking to switch birth controls or going off completely.
I love the NuvaRing. NO side effects. Easy - I just forget about it! I leave it in for 3 weeks, take it out for a week and my menstrual cycle comes for about 4 days then stops. It's fool proof! I can't even feel it. I was on the pill and had bad side effects - swollen, tender breasts and moody. NuvaRing's a miracle!
I love Nuvaring. The first birth control I ever used that is no hassle, no major side effects, well some minor is the vaginal infection (but plain yogurt with active culture will do the job and take care of it) and yes it does decrease your sex drive. I don't have mood swings and no weight gain. I love it and will stick to using it.
I am a 28 year old mother of a 10 week old, I had never been on any hormonal birth control before and went on Nuvaring due to it's "low dose" hormone content. At first it seemed like a amazing birth control due to its ease of use and it gave me NO side effects whatsoever UNTIL the beginning of my second week of using it. I began to have tingling in both of my feet and hands and began getting strange sensations/pains in my arms and legs. I quit using it as soon as I researched the side-effects.
It wasn't too bad. I loved how easy it was, I didn't experience any pain or weight gain and my complexion improved greatly! The only problem was that I would become extremely depressed and moody for no reason at all. I would recommend it to others.
I have been on Nuvaring for 4 years. The only con is the heavy vaginal discharge. Pros are many: 3 day period, few cramps, easy to use, can't feel during sex or anytime. I haven't had negative side effects.
