For Depression "Lexapro has worked well for me. My anxiety and depression are about gone. The first 2 months were pretty bad and I almost quit many times but am glad I didn't. Side effects included night sweats, tinitus, headaches, insomnia, sexual issues, dizzzyness...... Most of this has resolved now after 3 months. Adding a b complex with folate and omega 3 seems to have helped me. This is a very good drug for anxiety and depression but you'll need to be very patient, and struggle thru the initial side effects"

For Anxiety "This med is amazing. 23 year old christian college grad with every type of anxiety for the past 2 years. Could barely go to class or the grocery store, felt dissociated, distant and terrified of people (including friends). Was scared to try any drug but after losing my job and needing to go out and interview I decided to try something. 3 days in and I feel totally changed. No anxiety. Clear head. Feel like I could even move countries to work and I've been out more in a weekend than I have been in 3 months combined. I take 5mg and 25mg of hydroxyzine to balance out the side effects (blurry vision, headaches, muscle spasms etc). Don't be scared just try it. I regret not going on this sooner."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "At first I thought lexapro was helping but the only positive aspect was that it slightly helped my thoughts not spin out of control but not enough to keep taking since the side effects were awful! Weight gain, bloating, and others but the worst was that I could NOT hold still. I was constantly moving and restless physically! It drove me and everyone around me insane. Coworkers complained, boyfriend complained. It was a nightmare and also NO sex drive. Got off. Feel fine. So much better."

For Anxiety "I have been on Lexapro 10 mg for a year and a half for depression and anxiety, along with generic remeron 15mg as sleep aid. Last summer I switched to only generic remeron (mirtrazipine) and my mood started to go up and down. The thing with lexapro is it takes away inhibition. That also includes being more impulsive. So be careful when upset. It also ramped up anxiety in the first couple of weeks and drives you nuts. I am getting back slowly on lexapro for 2 weeks. I got a few anxiety crisis so I take half 10mg and will try to increase slowly. Despite this minus, this is the best thing so far. BTW, generic escitalopram sucks. Tried and doesn't do the trick for me."

For Anxiety "Hi started this medication Cipro 2.5 years ago only 5mg. I had side effects to start including joint pain, Brain zaps, dizziness but it passed after 4-7 days and I have been back to myself working a full time job, driving again and living my life. Recommend it for sure."

For Anxiety "I've been on Lexapro for probably 7 years now. I've had severe anxiety, panic attacks, mood issues, EDs, and depression for a long time. Lexapro has helped immensely. I had side effects for the first few weeks (night sweats, felt tired, maybe increased anxiety at first) but I stuck with it and it's been my staple drug throughout these years compared to the 20 I have tried. I ultimately needed to add a mood stabilizer to get further relief, but Lexapro is definitely a huge help in that. I am on 10mg and Lamictal 50mg"

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I was put on Lexapro for 6 months as a trial after having a major anxiety attack (my first one ever) to see how my anxiety would change. I was prescribed 20mg. Because I have never been on medication in my life and heard these things can be highly addicting I took it upon myself (and with the approval of my Dr) to only take 10MG for the duration of the trial period. I definitely feel it helps with anxiety in the short-term. I gained 40lbs, especially in my belly area and head HORRIBLE heart burn. I also had dizzy spells once in a while. I would not count on any meds for long-term. I recommend change in lifestyle than to suffer from side effects of meds. The good almost doesn't outweight the bad."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I have always been an anxious person with major bouts of anxiety and OCD. But have always managed to keep it under control - except for a few months ago. I had tried healthy eating, CBT, exercise, yoga, positive affirmations, acupuncture and more....nothing seemed to work for me. Doctor suggested Lexapro and I was so so reluctant as I HATE the idea of antidepressants! And I wasn't even depressed!!!! :( BUT - I started... 2.5mg at first. Then after one week upped to 5mg - which I am on now. PROS: Feel a lot better, sleep great, calm, no weight gain CONS: Not much energy, little lack of sex drive. I wanted to come off it first but PLEASE hang in there!! It actually works! Goodluck and wishing you all the happiness that I have on Lexapro xxxx"

For Depression "Had a major depressive episode out of nowhere (no stressful life circumstances). When I started on 10 mg I stayed awake 40 hours straight and had panic attacks. Went off it. After horrible Effexor side effects I started on 5 mg of Lexapro again (I was absolutely desperate) and gradually increased. For the first two weeks this drug made my anxiety/depression way worse and I became delusional, but once I took a very small dose of seroquel I became progressively better each day and I have no symptoms of mental illness whatsoever anymore. Completely healed me of depression."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I am a Flight Attendant for a major airline. I went into the Flight Deck where the Captain and the First Officer sit 6 years ago and my anxiety developed from one major panic attack after another. I tried everything and I was a biggest advocate for NOT taking medicine. After a 6 year battle I started seeing a doctor of Psychology and a doctor of Psychiatry. Both advised I take Lexapro. I started taking 5 mg for a month then upped to 10 mg a month and then my doctor upped me to 20 mg per day. I have been battling going to work for six years because of Anticipatory Anxiety on an airplane. I am happy to say that I am now back to work and doing things I never thought in my mind that I could ever do. Give Lexapro a chance, its worked!"

For Depression "I take 10 mg daily. Started two weeks ago. I was on Zoloft for 3 years prior. The side effects are not as bad as Zoloft. I am still waiting for the full effects since my body is still not used to this medicine. It helps with my depression so far."

For Depression "I was prescribed Lexapro for Depression, 10mg/day. I have been suffering from depression for nearly 2 years now, and I finally forced myself to seek medical help. I'm only on day 3, but I can honestly notice a slight positive change already. Day 1 & 2 have been a bit difficult; uncontrollable yawning, fatigued and a bit nauseated. But today, day 3, it feels like a light switched on in my brain! That light is at the end of the tunnel, meaning I have to give a little more time. If you are truly depressed, this medicine will help you."

For Anxiety "I had severe panic attacks for 6 months! I developed derealization and was scared of everything. I felt like I was living in a nightmare. I felt relief from Lexapro immediately. I was foggy headed at first but that went away. I feel amazing after 2 months of taking it. I feel like my old self again. The only side effect is dizziness at night sometimes. I only take 5 mg."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "(From a teen's point of view. I am currently 14) I developed severe Emetophobia at age 6 and then after 7 years of panic attacks and anxiety, at age 13 i got to the point where I was laying in bed for hours all day everyday begging my mom for a new type of medicine (I had previously been taking Mirtazipine for 5 years and it seemed to stop working) so I got prescribed with 5mg Lexapro (liquid form) at 10 ml a day. It worked very quickly and I began to feel normal again. I was able to actually leave the house again without panicking and my anxiety decreased dramatically. It changed my life so much and has made me a lot less anxious. I didn't experience any side effects except for suicidal thoughts. those lasted for a few months."

For Depression "When I first started taking Lexapro it made my depression even more severe. Then after being on it for several weeks I became a zombie. No, I wasn't depressed anymore but I couldn't feel happy either. And it also made my night terrors much worse."

For Anxiety "On Lexapro 14 months now. I almost never want Xanax anymore, and I am sleeping better than I have since I was a teenager (I am 46). Two negative results: sex drive has decreased markedly, and I've had a 10% weight gain. But even with these two factors, I would never consider going back to the person I was before Lexapro."

For Depression "I have always experienced small bouts of anxiety and depression before but nothing that ever really stuck around. A few months ago something caused me to become anxious, which lead to a panic attack which then lead to depression, and no matter what I did I just couldn't shake it. I couldn't eat, sleep, no desire to do anything, always anxious. I went to my doctor who put me on Lexapro. It immediately helped with my anxiety, and within a few days my depression lifted. I have now been on Lexapro for over 2 months and feel back to my normal self. Initial side effects: Very sleepy for about 3 days, nausea for a couple of nights. I still experience: Vivid dreams and low sex drive. I never experienced: Weight gain or insomnia. Overall very happy."

For Depression "Saved me for the first six years I was on it. Unfortunately as with many SSRI's it will lose its great qualities after time. You can go above 20 mgs but its not recommended. I am adding Lithium to try to get it working again."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I've been on this about 6 months. I'm much more settled, less jumpy, way less anxious, and I've got my sense of silliness back. Yay! I have maintained my sexual interest and ability to orgasm, which is a relief. Prozac left me feeling way more anxious (and completely inorgasmic), Vibryd made me feel like jumping out of my skin and messed up my sleep for months. So... I will definitely stay on Lexapro. One note. It did make me sleepy during the day at first. I now take it at night."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I was on Celexa 20mg for a full year due to anxiety and panic attacks. The medicine was working great. I had to switch doctors and my new one suggested to a try Lexapro. She said its a cleaner and better medicine then Celexa. I said ok I'll try it. It's been two week and no side effects at all. It's been great. I'm glad I switched. I'm taking 10mg of Lexapro now which is the same as 20mg Celexa."

For Depression "I just started Lexapro yesterday. It knocked me out. I also take 4mg of Klonopin everyday. Your input is encouraging. Thank you. I've tried Depakote and lithium. Hated how they make me feel. I'm also underweight so gaining is a plus."

For Anxiety "It is great to read all your different experiences with Escitalopram and it gives me hope that a lot of you have been able to benefit from this. I am only on Day 3 with 10 mg Escitalopram (1st time on AD) and I really hope this will reducere my SA and GAD after 10 years of suffering"
