For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: I have suffered with anxiety and agoraphobia since I was 6. Since the age of 19, I never went more than 45 mins from home. I started on Lexapro and an anti-anxiety medicine in 2009. I have made it to a beach that I hadn't seen since I was 14, I am now 60, and have been 7 times since 2009. The drive is 1 hr 30 mins from home. I go every summer, more than once, and sometimes stay a few days, one time staying 6 days! This medicine is a God send, I wish they had it 20 years ago.

For Anxiety: I used to be on 200mg of sertraline but after 12 years on this medicine I started having severe problems with anxiety after a good friend's death, this eventually led to a near breakdown 3 years later when my anxiety became so bad I could barely function. My Dr suggested I switch to escitalopram. I was terrified of making this switch & put it off for weeks but eventually decided to 'take the plunge'. 4 days later and my anxiety levels are already reducing HUGELY! I wish I'd taken this sooner & can't believe how easy the switch was. I literally stopped taking my 200mg of sertraline one day and started taking 20mg of escitalopram the next. This stuff's a life saver!

For Depression: I'm 30 years, have been suffering from depression on and off for years. This year, I came down with a hard case of Seasonal Affective Disorder, which rendered me a useless ball of fear every day from the afternoon onward and eventually led to other problems (digestion, neurological, and otherwise). My doctor prescribed 10mg escilatopram. Goodness, I wasn't expecting much, but I feel absolutely fantastic now. I'm happy and can focus on daily activities, even in the dark winter evenings. Also, I've been on it for almost 2 months now, and I haven't noticed any side effects! No digestive or sexual problems which seem to be not-so-rarely reported.

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: I started taking Lexapro 10 mg 4 days ago. I already feel less anxious and panicky. I haven't been experiencing heart flutters and palpitations like I usually would from stress and anxiety. I feel more energized, outgoing, happy & less stressed. It helps me sleep better at night. The only side effect that I have noticed thus far is that the medicine makes me yawn a lot, which I have heard tapers off after a few weeks of being on the medicine. Other than that I have not noticed any other issues. I think Lexapro is great!

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: I had Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with intrusive thoughts. This came out of nowhere and I ended up having to take time off work. One week of sitting on the sofa crying my eyes out and having repeated panic attacks and thinking I was going crazy I then saw my doc. She referred me to a psychologist and put me on Lexapro 5mg for 4 days and then up to 10mg. She also gave me Valium to use sparingly initially till my anxiety dropped. No change week 1 except day 1 where I felt a feeling of euphoria. Week 2 had increase in anxiety even a panic attack. End of week 3 and I'm back to my old self. No more anxiety or intrusive thoughts. I am doing all the things I use to do. I feel normal again. Lexapro and seeing a psychologist has done wonders. Super happy.

For Anxiety: I love Lexapro! It helps me stop drinking, lose weight and I have way less anxiety now. For all those people that have sexual dysfunction, try taking it at night right before bed, after sex. I have no problems in that area now!

For Depression: It works to control generalized anxiety disorder. However, don't stop taking it until your doctor tells you to after at least a year. My psych took me off after 6 months and the symptoms returned.

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Just started my 3rd month on this medication and I have never been so happy in my life. I struggled with major anxiety and periods of depression that had affected my school work and social life, I would never want to go out with my friends. I also felt as if everyone was talking about my issue and was trying to avoid me as to not get involved. I would like to call this prescription a miracle because it has helped me in ways that I cannot explain. I was feeling so helpless and felt like I had no control over my life. After the second week or taking the medicines I started to feel like the normal me. I did experience some slightly unpleasant side effects such as dry mouth and insomnia in the first 3 or 4 days, but they got better.

For Anxiety: I suffer from hypochondria and panic disorder. I was so afraid to take medication. After 2 years I finally took Cipralex. It has made my anxiety a lot more tolerable. I've had a few major panic attacks but overall good experience. I've been on 20mg for 2 years.

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: This medicine has changed my life for the better. My anxiety became so bad that I couldn't sleep AT ALL. I became very obsessive with my worries and thought that everything was the end of the world. I was paralyzed with fear. When I started Lexapro I had A LOT of side effects that almost caused me to not continue...irritable, waking up in panic, night sweats, etc. After about 4 weeks I started to feel "normal" and calmer. I tried going off after two years which was a big mistake...back on and plan on staying on for a long time!

For Anxiety: I am a 26 year old who has had anxiety since I was a child. I've gone through rough spots on and off throughout my life where I would feel extremely anxious and nauseous all of the time. I finally decided to do something about it when I started experiencing panic attacks on top of it all. Lexapro along with seeing a psychologist saved my life. I went into this knowing there is no "magic" pill out there - I still have good and bad days like everyone, but NOTHING like how bad I felt before. When I initially began taking the medicine, it made my anxiety worse - I told my doctor and he adjusted the dosage to a smaller amount. I felt tremendously better in just about a week, and have continued to feel better and better.

For Depression: I have suffered from depression for years. At first I was a little apprehensive to take any medication but I had reached a low point. Everyday I woke up with a storm cloud over my head, I was irritable, quick to anger and always grumpy. I could literally feel the weight of my mood on me at all times. I barely laughed anymore, I didn't find anything enjoyable. I have been taking 10mg of Lexapro for three weeks now and I am floored by the difference it has made. It's like I can feel again. I know this sounds cliche, but everything is more vivid, more colorful, more lively. I didn't experience any side effects other than loss of appetite.

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: I suffered from anxiety, obsessive thoughts due to anxiety, and depression as a result. I had thoughts in my head that I tried to suppress and the thoughts just came back stronger. I thought that I was completely helpless and began to have suicidal thoughts. I started on Zoloft (first on 25mg then 50mg) and it helped with my depression and anxiety, except it made me really sleepy. My doctor suggested Lexapro at 10mg and I have been on it for about 5 weeks now. My condition has improved tremendously! I am happier and my thoughts aren't overpowering my life. I started CBT and that has helped as well. DO NOT GIVE UP. Things will get better, I promise. I thought the medicine wouldn't work for me, but it does.

For Depression: Lexapro seemed to do some things to help with the negative thinking I had from depression, but it had the side effect of making me extremely tired all the time, which was enough to counteract any of the positive benefits I was getting from it. Zoloft ended up being the better medication for me.

For Anxiety: I am a 30 year old female who has suffered from depression and anxiety my entire life and it got worse after I had my daughter. Two years after she was born, I couldnt take it anymore and I had to get help. I talked to my doctor and was put on Lexapro, 10 mg. I hated it at first. I was dizzy and "swimmy" feeling, couldnt sleep, couldnt eat, felt out of it, couldn't care less about things that were going on. This only lasted about a week! Then, I could gradually feel myself getting used to it. My next appt, my dosage was upped to 20 mg (he started me on 10 because he wanted to ease me into it knowing I was a mom and worked full time; i still needed to function). Let me just say that Lexapro SAVED MY LIFE!! I love it and swear by it!

For Depression: I suffer from SAD and in the winter it sometimes felt like I could actually feel the darkness, especially on dreary days. I've been on Lexapro for 3 years and it has worked great. I only feel a tinge of "heaviness" if it stays dreary for several days, but even then it is nothing like it used to be.

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Male, late 40's. Earlier summer events created extended stress that eventually broke me. Every morning I'd wake with sweat rolling down my neck, lost my appetite and the worst-case scenario of everything played in my mind. I'm normally the "rock" that everyone turns to. Started with Wellbutrin for 2 weeks but that left me with heightened anxiety. Spent a couple weeks on Propranolol / Klonopin but that 's not a long term solution. Started 10 mg Lexapro (generic) and after 5 1/2 weeks, nothing but crazy emotional swings. Switched to 20 mg and after about 2 weeks noticed a distinct change. Greatly reduced symptoms so far. Skeptical as I was, this stuff actually works.

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Lexapro SAVED MY MARRIAGE...to my husband of one year. After a few bad years of terrible MOOD SWINGS, verbal and Physical abuse[he battered his kids mother years ago and was jailed], irrational behavior, defiance, his obsessive *porn* addiction, lying about $$/secretive personality.. I am finally able to say that this medicine has CHANGED him and he is NOT a MONSTER anymore..His obsessive nature is GONE. I cried the first week he got on it and thanked God over and over..We tried two rounds of counseling combined with going to church and the rage wouldnt go away so a relative of his suggested he take Celexa because he had the same disorder..He was put on Lexapro instead..I am VERY HAPPY now..

For Depression: I am a 60 year male who became disabled 14 years ago. Every since I was unable to work or even walk I have been very depressed and had severe anxiety. Once I was started on 20 mgs of Lexapro I felt like a new person. It took a week or so for the full effect to come on but have had no problems with side effects at all. Thank God for Lexapro!

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Lexapro is extremely helpful in reducing my generalized anxiety disorder. I need to take a Xanax very very rarely in case of panic attack or severe anxiety that the Lexapro doesn't cut it but 98% of the time Lexapro knocks out my feelings of rumination from generalized anxiety, panic and fear.

For Depression: I was only on Lexapro for 2 weeks but in that time, I had a headache everyday, would get extremely tense muscles and the back of my neck, was very drowsy (took a few 2+ hour naps), felt dizzy (had some vertigo effects), couldn't focus on anything, and completely lost the ability to orgasm which caused my partner a lot of stress and made sex frustrating instead of enjoyable. I was on 5mg for a week then 10mg. It just wasn't worth it for me. I'm now taking Wellbutrin SR and like it so far (only on my 3rd day).

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder: I was experiencing a lot of anxiety and depression and panic attacks. My first reaction to my anxiety was to drink alcohol. Since alcohol is a depressant, that made everything worse. Now that I am on this medication, I feel like I'm back old self - and I have no desire for alcohol (which should not be taken with this medication anyway). I started with 10mg initially and had a lot of side effects (nausea, diarrhea, etc.) and was very lethargic, so I cut it in half and tried again. I can't tell you how much this medication has helped me. Remember, our body chemistries are all different, so sometimes adjustment have to be made initially. Now I'm on 10mg and I feel like a new woman.
