"I have been on Clindamycin HCL for 5 days now for MRSA & have 2 days left. I have had heart burn for most of my life (I was in a fire when I was 10 & was on a staggering amount of medication that screwed with my belly) but the heart burn I experienced the first 2 days on Clindamycin was the most severe I've ever had. I followed the directions, drank a lot of water, didn't lay down after taking it, etc... but I was still in so much pain & was bloated. I take Protonix to help control my heart burn, but I don't take it every day. I realized on day 3 that if I took the Protonix first thing in the morning with breakfast & waited an hour to take my first dose of Clindamycin that I didn't have the heart burn at all!!! I thought I'd pass it on."

"This antibiotic is brutal, but does its job. I began it 3 days ago due to pericoronitis (infection at rear of wisdom tooth). By the 3rd dose, the infection was basically gone. It worked so quickly that I questioned if my body had killed off the bacteria, or if the antibiotic was really that powerful. It's really that powerful. Sadly, the side-effects are quite unpleasant, but an indicator that they are really working. Fatigue, mild nausea, and lower abdominal issues seem to be quite common, and all three have hit me. It's unpleasant to the point that I've more than once thought of stopping the treatment, but I know that's a bad idea. It works really well...I just hope that I don't have to take it again for a very long time."

"I am taking clindamycin for a tooth abscess. I take 300 mg every six hours for 15 days. When I first started the antibiotic, my left sinus and eye area were very swollen. Two doses of the clindamycin took away all the swelling and helped with the pain. I am on day 7 of taking it. I am pleased with it because it definitely seems to be getting rid of the infection. I got a few manageable side effects - tiredness, thirst, and a metallic chemical taste in my mouth. Just a little diarrhea too, but many antibiotics do that. Drinking a lot of water and taking a daily probiotic really helps lessen these side effects. Always take the medicine with a full glass of water and food, even if it is just a piece of bread."

"Was put on Clindamycin 300 mg HCL for tooth infection. Do Not Take This Drug. Took for 14 days. I now have C diff infection. Bloody diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain the worst ever. Ended up in ER with intravenous fluids. Can't eat it hurts to bad. Why would doctors prescribe this dangerous drug for someone. Eats up all the good bacteria and leaves all the bad. Been really sick it is unbelievable. Remove this drug from the market. Quit making people sick. Never again will I take this worst thing this can come back."

"Like several others have said - this drug works great if you take it properly. I was prescribed clindamycin for an infection in my gums, and after reading reviews I was nervous about taking it. I spaced my doses 7 hours apart, made sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and took probiotics (Florastor and Culturelle) 2x per day, and I have had no issues. My infection has greatly subsided, and I haven't had any side effects described in other reviews.."

"I didn't want to take an antibiotic at all after my tooth was pulled, couple days later I realized that I need to. I started taking it. Gum looks better. I am on the 4 day of. I don't have any side effects listed on this site. But mine are different. I am a woman and I would suggest a lot of yogurt. I have some mucus developed anytime I go to the bathroom and in my nose as well. It's yellow color and not green. Feels like cold. But when I wake up in the morning it feels better when I am not taking it. Plenty water and yogurt for women. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE IT WITH FOOD. AND YOGURT. DON'T FORGET TO TAKE PROBIOTIC AFTER."

"I started Clindamycin on March 25 for sinus infection - 150 mg, 3x a day for 21 days. This is the first time I have taken this medication. This past Friday, I thought I was having a heart attack. I knew it was this medicine giving me awful heartburn/chest pain because I could 'taste' the medicine. The heartburn and awful taste are almost unbearable. I will try drinking more water and do probiotics/yogurt. I am thankful that, so far, I have not had any upset stomach or diarrhea. Thanks for the tips."

"After having a toothache all day, I noticed some swelling. Knowing it was an abscess, I went to the dentist. He prescribed me Cipro. After taking Cipro for 2 days the whole left side of my face was swollen, I was in agonizing pain and my BP was crazy high (due to pain). Eventually I went to the ER. The ER doctor prescribed me clindamycin and gave me a dose right there. Before I was even fully discharged I could feel the infection draining. I was finally able to get some sleep (thanks to the pain pills they gave me) and woke up 2 hours later with significantly less swelling. This is my 4th day and the infection is almost all the way gone. I haven't had to take the prescription pain meds for 2 days now and can easily control the pain with OTC pain meds. It may not be for everyone but for me this medicine has been a God-send. I've experienced little to no side effects."

"I had to go to an urgent care for a rash I had and I had told the doctor that I’m allergic to a penicillin. He said Clindamycin is not really a penicillin, This is the worst drug! I had to stop taking it after 4 days because I broke out in hives and had chest pain. It made my rash worse than what I started with! I do take probiotics daily anyway, but that didn’t even help ! I also have gastro problems so my stomach felt on fire! I’m praying I don’t get a c-diff infection because I’m a cancer survivor with an already bad immune system! A c-diff infection will totally be very bad for me. Doctors have to really listen to what their patients are telling them!"

"This medication clindamycin rid me of my abscess but it also destroyed my gut. I was just tested for C. Diff Friday... waiting on those results. Apparently this is a much more common side effect than any doctor will relay. I have found an entire community of people who became infected with c.diff after taking this medication. C.diff is a life ruiner. It can be deadly. I have children to take care of ! This is absolutely awful. It isn't worth it. Ask for a different antibiotic."

"I don't care what side effects this medication gives me it's the best thing ever, I'd take these side effects over tooth access pain any day! l Let clydimiacin knock me out, send me to the bathroom 1000 times I don't care ( exaggerating obviously ) I get most of the side effects but don't care. This knocks an abscess out quickly and I love it!"

"Don't be scared of other's reviews, I came here after being prescribed this medicine because I had never heard of it, and wanted to get more information. After reading all the reviews, most of them telling horror stories about their experience. I followed every letter of the instructions, I took each pill with a 16 oz glass of water, stayed seated or standing for 10-20 minutes, took as prescribed every 6 hours, and took a probiotic once a day. After the first 36 hours I noticed the pain of the infection started to subside and the affected area got smaller. After 72 hours on the medication, I was feeling back to normal. The only side affect I noticed was a slightly upset stomach one day that I forgot to take the probiotic."

"I took clindamycin for a wisdom tooth that was infected due to food getting inside the gums. I’ve taken Amoxicillin, but developed a skin rash and was advised I could be allergic. So, my dentist prescribed me Clindamycin. Worst medicine I’ve ever took. I was fine the first 3 days, felt like nothing was happening. But, I woke up on my 4th day and I couldn’t stand up straight. I had this bloated, gassy feeling in my abdominal area. It felt like I had to use the bathroom after holding it in for too long. I honestly thought it was Appendicitis from how bad the pain was. I was crying and didn’t know what to do. I went to urgent care, and informed the doctor I was on this antibiotic. She told me “I’m very surprised, you’re handling this drug very well. This antibiotic can cause abdominal pain”. I called my dentist the same day and told her I’m not taking it anymore. My body didn’t go back to normal for another week. I had loose stool and abdominal pain."

"I took this medicine after I had a lower wisdom tooth removed. I read the label on the bottle and it warned me not to lay down so I never experienced any heart burn. I took 3 pills 8 hours apart as recremended. Day 7 I woke up with a rash on my abdomen, back, chest, and upper thigh. I immediately stopped taking it ( I know you should never stop taking an antibiotic & finish until gone) but there was no way I was going to risk it. About a week after stopping the medicine I've been experiencing terrible diarreah. I never took a probiotic. I would definitely suggest one if you're takimg this medicine. Waiting to see if it clears up on its own"

"I was on Clindamycin for 1 week 4x/day. I had nerve pain from a tooth that was needing a root canal. It was supposed to lessen the pain I was having and didn't do that, I was still taking Ibuprofen for the pain. From the first time I took it, it gave me pain in my throat and chest, heartburn-like. I have never experienced this horrible feeling with any antibiotic EVER. I finally finished the dosage after 7 days and my throat and chest still hurt. I wonder what it has done to my throat and chest? I am thinking of going to go get it checked out. I am not sure why this was prescribed over another type of antibiotic. If you can don't take this drug you'll feel sick from what you have and feel sick from the antibiotic."

"Started taking this 4 days ago, 300mg 3x daily. After 1 day the swelling started to go down and by day 4 the swelling is gone. After 2-3 days the pain subsided (it is still there, but a LOT less severe). But as the pain subsided, in came the nasty taste in the mouth. I tried mouthwash (doesn't help)... I've tried drinking plenty of water (doesn't help)... and I've tried gum (works temporarily but as soon as the gums out of the mouth, the taste comes back and my jaw starts hurting when I chew it."

"I am currently taking 300 MG of Clindamycin 3 times daily with food. I take it every 5 hours. I am on day 5 out of 10 and currently have not experienced any side effects at all. However, I am also taking a great probiotic twice daily with food as well, away from the Clindamycin. I take the first probiotic in between dose 1 and 2, and the second between dose 2 and 3. From other reviews, I highly recommend a good probiotic. As well as a post probiotic to get your body's flora back up. I am taking Clindamycin for an oral viral/bacterial infection I've had going on for months. So far I have already seen improvement and I am only halfway through my dose. Also, be sure to always take it with food and drink plenty of water."

"I'm on 21 days of antibiotics for a tooth infection that wouldn't go away. 1 week on amox and 2 weeks on clindamycin (300mg every 4 hours). I actually have 3 days left but I'm doing quite well. My advice, talk to a pharmacist and check online what to do while taking clindamycin because it can be quite harmful. I bought a tonne of probiotic dairy free yogurt and probiotic capsule (5 billion strength). With every dose of clindamycin I would eat a small meal usually gluten free toast and something else (maybe an egg for protein) and have a serving of gluten free yogurt and drink at least 500ml of water when taking the clinda. After 2.5 hours I eat another small meal and take a probiotic capsule. I didn't eat anything heavy or hard to digest. Basically my diet consists of gluten free bread, an egg or two a day, cereal, soy milk and dairy free yogurt and lots of water. Sounds like a bland diet but it's served me well. I'm on day 18 of 21 with this stuff and only now having mild diarrhea."

"I was prescribed this medication every 6 hrs for a severe tooth infection that was sore to my neck. It's been 3 days and the pain is subsiding a bit, very little heartburn, but I also am on prescription Prilosec. You cannot take any heartburn meds for 2-4hrs before and after taking clindamycin. My dosage is every 6 hrs. So far my worst side effect is the stomach cramping and I have the absolute worst metal taste in my mouth. Nothing seems to take it away. I suggest definitely following the directions exactly, especially with drinking water and NOT laying down for at least 20-30mins."

"Hope this helps others! It has been said a hundred times before so I will say it again. MAKE SURE YOU DRINK ENOUGH WATER WHEN TAKING THIS MEDICATION! I made a bad mistake by not drinking enough water with my dose. I got no sleep from the side effect of heart burn and the accompanying chest pains. So much so that I was afraid of taking my next dose. I didn't want to go thru that again! I did talk myself into taking the next 600mg because the drug works that well. I want this infection out of me once and for all! I hope these meds work for you as they have for me. 1/2 way there. Won't be long now!"

Itchy skin sore throat. Tired, nauseous and moody! It basically put you into menopause! But hey my infection is gone. Lol"

"I went to the ER because I could not swallow due to the pus pockets on my tonsils and my swollen glands. They gave me a dose of this medicine in the hospital and 2 hours later I could swallow again. I got the prescription filled and took it, holy heartburn. It is worth the pain of the heartburn because this medicine definitely worked for me."

Cleocin (clindamycin) "I have had a staph infection for some time I was on Bactrim and Ceflexicin for 10 days and they seemed to work, until I was out of medication. I was then prescribed Cleocin, I have been on it for a week and just shy of that week I started to have side effects. I have never before had any side effect from any medication prescribed, so this was quite a shock. Cleocin seemed to be working on my infection but I had to discontinue it's use early. I had the worst case of heart burn that would hit me in waves of pain never before had I experienced that type of pain, the inside of my mouth became very raw. "

"I was prescribed clindamycin for a mouth (not tooth) infection. I won't know if it worked until I am done with it and the infection stays gone. The side effects have been a bummer! Horrible heartburn, fatigue and nausea. The heartburn is manageable with lots of water and huge bottle of tums. Kefir has helped too. I want the infection to buzz off but this stuff is a drag. I have never had an antibiotic beat me up like this"
