Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Urticaria "I'm absolutely miserable right now... I've been using Zyrtec for almost 10 years because when I was younger I developed a condition called Dermatographia. When I would lightly scratch my skin it puffed up and create hives. The doctor told me to take Zyrtec and sure enough, my skin wouldn't puff up anymore. I continued to blindly take Zyrtec for almost a decade. Periodically, I would miss a day or two and would get very itchy, I thought this was my Dermatographia coming back. What I didn't realize is that the itchiness was a withdrawal symptom of Cetirizine. I probably could have stopped taking Zyrtec YEARS ago. It's been 4 days since I stopped and I have EXTREME itchiness everywhere on my body, even inside my mouth. I'm so sad to read this is a problem for others as well. I want the itchiness to STOP. If anyone is going through the same struggle, write a comment. I'm so upset that there is no warning to this miserable side effect anywhere...."

For Allergic Rhinitis "Started taking this for my dust allergy, worked great for that! Except at the same time I started experiencing severe dizzy spells and a really heavy head throughout the day. I had no clue it was related to Zyrtec, when I visited the doc today he suggested to stop taking it and that's when it hit me that these symptoms only started when I started these pills! Terrible medication that sucks the life out of you and sends your brain in to a haze!"

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "I have just decided to stop taking Zyrtec. It worked well on my allergies. However I have had increase in back and joint pain i.e. knee and hip the past two weeks. Not sure it's Zyrtec but felt I'd eliminate it to see if symptoms resolve."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Urticaria "I have been getting viral hives over the last 6 months. I went and saw an allergist (who diagnosed me) and he recommends this instead of Benadryl. For me it hasn't helped. I guess I'm not as lucky as the others here."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "I have been on Zyrtec D for about 10 years. I take this once a day. I have tried to go off this medicine numerous times in order to have allergy testing done but I can’t get past the itching and horrible withdrawal systems. This is currently the longest I’ve been off of it and I’m on day 3 and in misery. After 24 hours the itching started. Palm of my hands, feet, legs even inside of my mouth is itching. I wish there would have been a warning on their medication because I would not have ever started it. This is horrible. Completely miserable and all I want to do is take a pill to stop this itching. I have been taking Benadryl which is helping to make the itching not as intense but it doesn’t make it go completely away and the Benadryl makes me so sleepy. Hopefully not too many more days of this because it is absolutely horrible."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I would just like to add a positive review in the midst of all the bad one. I realize that everybody react differentlyto each medicine, so I would like to say that I'm one of the people that had no symtomps whatsoever upon taking this medicine. I have severe rhinitis allergy and have been taking lots of other antihistamines. Cetrizine have work really well with me, all of the other literally made me sleep in the middle of the day! Minimal drowziness, and very effective except for some days where my allergy is so severe, I had to take the medication twice because the first one didn't work but this is a very rare case. So please don't hesitate to try it might work really well for you too!"

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Urticaria "So, suddenly when I was 29 I started getting terrible itchy times, scratching myself till I bleed, swollen skin. Doctors failed to diagnose anything, but I asked them to at least give me something and the doc made me try zyrtec. I take one every 2 to 3 days and I can't keep going without it. I just did an experiment and lasted 5 days without but 4th and 5th were horrible. Zyrtec is imo not addictive, if you had itchiness and rash before then of course it will come back when you stop taking it. It has some pretty nasty side effects for me tho: - drowsiness - horrible realistic nightmares - mood swaps, anger issues I am right now for better alternatives."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Urticaria "I had never heard of hives and I'm 54! We moved to my Mother in laws house after she passed away. And just thought was something in house. I have been to ER 2x in a month. The Dr in ER diagnosed as urticaria both times got steroid shots and prescriptions same both times. Nurse said take Pepcid and Zyrtec. But some days are so bad!"

For Allergic Rhinitis "Okay, I had three days of intense hay fever, my right eye was really itchy and my husband gave me a zyrtec before I went to bed. The next day I felt really off, I got up at my usual time, and did some chores but my arms and legs felt heavy, and even after a few cups of coffee I felt bleah....but the worst of it was everything made me ANGRY. I was super irritable about petty things that wouldn't normally upset me, I was hot, and uncomfortable. I knew this was not ME--today I feel much better. I decided to look up Zyrtec to see if anyone else had a similar reaction--wow, I am so glad I did--I really had a bad reaction to this drug and I am glad I had the sense to figure out what had set off the rage. But, the sad thing is my husband has been taking one of these a day for over 4 years. During this time he has had so many sinus infections, and problems with urinating that he attributed to getting up there in years, and some other psyc. issues that now make me think that it is the Zyrtec."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "I just took Zyrtec for the first time last night. I slept great, but now that I am awake, I feel so tired. I am not experiencing any of my allergy symptoms, but I am on Nasonex too. Nasonex and Zyrtec work great together, the Zyrtec is the antihistamine, and the Nasonex is just a generic allergy medication. I am very sluggish, but people have said that it wears off within a couple of days. I am a little drawn back though, people have been saying it causes problems with their moods, but I trust my doctor who prescribed it to me. Hope you all feel better soon."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) "It was one of my worst days ever with Hay Fever. Ten sodden handkerchiefs and still fluids literally pouring from my nose and eyes. My throat felt like it was closing and I was choking and coughing. I just had to go to the Pharmacy for something or risk collapsing. For the first time I decided to try Zyrtec.Wow. it was like magic. Within a minute or two the coughing stopped, the fluid loss stopped and I felt normal again. This stuff is sensationally effective! That night I slept like a baby with no nasal obstruction at all. I awoke refreshed and free from symptoms. It remained so all the next day. I then took another Zyrtec 24 hrs later and will do so until the pack is empty. A big big thankyou to the person who discovered it."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I have taken Zyrtec since it came out years ago. It is the only thing that works for me. And believe me over the last 45 years I have tried everything! I have year round allergies and dog allergies. Once in a while (when the pollen count hits the roof as it does in Missouri) I have to also take an over the counter medication with it."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "This is the only medication that has worked for me so far (besides Benadryl), but it gives me horrible dry mouth and eyes after using it for a few days, and if I take it for longer than that my tongue starts to hurt because of the dryness. I would give it a 10 if it weren't for those symptoms."

But doctor's give 10 mg a day and its been good since; although I am taking it less and less as and when I catch those allergies. Causes me some drowsiness and constant yawning!"

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "I suffered from reoccurring respiratory infections 2-3 times a year as well as seasonal allergies. A nurse recommended I start taking Zyrtec daily so I did. It has been over 3 years now and I have not had so much as a cold in that time. Now, in the spring I have to supplement it with Benadryl as the hay fever can get bad at certain times and make my eyes itch. But overall I am much better off respiratory infection wise. I also take L-Lysine daily and my doctor had made the comment that these 2 combined could possibly act as a prophylactic against COVID as well. Thank you, Zyrtec!"

For Urticaria "Taking Zyrtek LITERALLY...not only deceived me, but ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED my body!!! All this while eating Organic & Vegan plus teaching classes in the Fitness industry (oh how humiliating)...& just deteriorating from the once healthy person that I was. My Collagen & Elasticity is SHOT after I went through the EXCRUCIATING withdrawal process!!! Not to mention that I still swell up and down nonstop monthly after taking this sick pill! Metabolism? What metabolism?! Not after Zyrtek! Skin/Collagen/Elasticity? Not after Zyrtek! And let's talk about my career... All of my credibility LOST! Try going to work in the industry's that once respected you & then look at you like a complete alien because I was covered head to toe in Zyrtek derived hives & angioedema!!! I lost around $125,000.+ This drug is a silent addictive drug and should be torn off the markets!"

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Urticaria "I've had chronic hives for most of my life. I can't tell you the different types of medical "cocktails" I've been on. I've tried doxepin up to 100 mg.... made me loopy all day long. Don't really want to take anything that will mess with my brain. I've taken Benadryl, Claritin, Zyrtec, Zyrtec w/Zantac, I've switched antacids --- be careful with Prilosec. That will lower your B12 quicker than anything. Mine got so low, I had to start giving myself B12 shots from taking the Prilosec. Nothing is working for me! I am miserable beyond comprehension! If anyone has any other suggestion, please post. Thank you."

For Allergic Rhinitis "10 mg is one of the best things I've ever taken for allergies. I can breathe better on this and I don't have to use my rescue inhaler as often. This drug suppresses my allergies to the point where I only need one squirt of Flonase per day (normally I use 2 squirts). I'd use this drug daily, except it wipes the floor with me (even Remeron and Benadryl don't make me this tired). Also seems to give me occasional stomach cramps and diarrhea."

For Urticaria "Very effective, but way to many side effects. Cetirizine is noticeably sedating, and it gives me headaches. I prefer other antihistamines to control my symptoms (fexofenadine or loratadine). Cetirizine is very effective for hives and itching, but it will ruin my day because of the sedation and headaches."

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "I used Zyrtec for indoor allergies (dust and pet dander) for 2 months. I was directed by my allergist to quit taking it 2 weeks prior to allergy tests and within 2-3 days of stopping the once daily Zyrtec, I broke out in hives from the top of my head to the bottoms of my feet (I've never had hives in my life.) The hives lasted about 10 days with the first 3 days being the worst. After doing more research on Zyrtec I found that withdrawal hives is VERY common. I will never use Zyrtec again!"

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "I was on Zyrtec for 3 years for allergies. I finally scheduled an appointment with an allergy doctor and had to stop the meds before the appointment. After two days, I had intense itching/ burning on my palms and soles of my feet. To the point I had to cave and take a half a pill and it would immediately subside after 20 minutes. I stopped the meds after doing some research and seeing how bad withdrawals are. It’s been almost a month since I last took half a pill. I’ve broken out into random rashes on my neck and chest almost daily. Also, every time my boyfriend kisses me anywhere except for my face I get a red rash. Fun times. Do not use Zyrtec!"

Zyrtec (cetirizine) for Allergic Rhinitis "This stuff worked great in the beginning for my allergies and overall health. I had terrible itchy skin and post nasal drip that this medication helped with. It also gave me a healthy appetite. As I used to be underweight at 140 lbs most of my life. Now I’m now a tall 217 lbs dude and I feel healthy! The only negative side effect is this medication gave me terrible muscle pain and joint pain. I no longer take it but it did help me for quite a while. I still have a healthy appetite and maintaining the weight after being off of it for so long now."

I quit this drug 5 days ago. Drug also made my eyes incredible dry. Itching is better, but I had another headache. I never rarely had headaches before this medicine. I am 53. Do not take this drug. I hope this goes away soon."
