Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I just started using Campral only two days ago and have noticed an immediate change--no urge or desire to drink. Is this possible or am I that desperate for the "silver bullet"? I've managed a few months of sobriety before relapsing. Even when not drinking, there was always that constant urge/desire. Just about all the reviews have described an almost miraculous change in behavior. I can only hope.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I have been on Campral for about 3 1/2 months. I went to detox and was prescribed it there. I have nothing but good things to say about it. I have zero side effects and I have not touched alcohol since I went to detox. I have zero craving and I have my life back. I was so sick when I finally got help, that feeling good again makes me smile every single day. I have now cut down my dosage to only 2 times a day and I am still free of any craving. Like others have said, I don't know what it does, but instead of struggling every day not to drink, I have zero cravings to ever drink again!

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: My partner has been on Campral for the past 2 weeks, 6 tablets a day (doctors orders) and I don't even recognize him! After 24 years of drinking everyday he hasn't had a drink since he started (That I know off) but he is really trying. I see how hard it is and I am just seeing it from an outsiders view. I don't feel the pain.
But alcohol doesn't just affect the person drinking. Everyone around you is affected and you don't realize what it does to your family, friends and the things you have lost! But I would like to wish everyone luck and congratulated all those who haven't had a drink or have seriously cut down! I know it has saved my partners life.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: Been on it for 3 days. Want a drink but not as bad as usual...drank 12 pack a day. Been drinking for almost 40 yrs.
Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I must agree HUGELY with the above comments who have praise for Campral. I feel like it has made the hugest difference in my attempts to stop drinking. I have many many attempts to quit (some genuine- some only half-hearted). This time has been my most sincere attempt. I take three Campral doses daily (2 at 333mg each) and have slowly noticed my cravings for alcohol go down. I''m sad to say that I have still had between 2-3 drinks per day since "quitting" (and starting Campral)- but compared to the 15-20 cans of beer I used to take down daily, what a difference. My hopes are to use the next week to allow myself only two drinks per day and the week after only one drink per day. I REALLY hope this plan works.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: Using Campral for 3 days now, unbelieveable! I have been drinking for 22 years nearly every day, I am astounded that Campral is not advertised in the same way as Champix for smoking. A very happy, but cautious customer. If you cant stop drinking, try it.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: It has been a year since I had a drink and I thank God every day for giving me my life back. I took Campral every day for four months and it helped my will power to quit and calmed my urges to drink again. I had a prescription for six months but didn't need it anymore after 3 or 4. There is no magic pill for anything in life but I highly recommend this medicine to help kick the booze habit. Please ask your doctor about Campral and get control of your life again.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: Heavy drinker every night for about 5 years - bottle of vodka or a couple of bottles of wine. Done myself a lot of injuries nearly lost my job so I have just started this drug only 2 days ago so still feel anxious at night, when I would usually drink so trying to find hobbies and interests to fill my mind instead. I was inspired by everyone's comments here so wish me luck.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: Thanks to everyone for sharing. 3rd day on the drug now and feel surprisingly good - I had forgotten what that feels like. Also been taking Paroxetine for some time for anxiety and Campral seems to have a similar (but more beneficial) calming effect for me. Possible placebo but who cares if it works eh? Thanks!

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I had commented earlier as to the great benefit Campral was to help me stop drinking. The sad part is that my right elbow started to hurt.
Then it started to swell. At first I didn't make the connection. Then I started to wonder if there was a connection. But I was so pleased because I didn't even think about drinking that I kept taking it.
I finally stopped taking it when I couldn't stand the pain of my elbow. It took a week before my elbow stopped hurting.
If anyone knows of something else that works this well without the side effects I'll take it in a second.
Good luck to all of you that want to try it!
Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: Works well if you want it to work! You must still have the will to stay sober! Drank once since starting the medicines. All my fault set myself up for it.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: Drank for thirty years, lost everything, struggled with benders for past 2 years after rehab, no hope. 3 months post Campral. 333mg per day. The only time I think about taking a drink is when I am thinking that I am not thinking of taking a drink. Truly feel it has had an anti-depressant effect for me. Sleep great and the only side effect is an occassional dizziness. Tell everyone you know struggling.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I drank for over 30 years until my psychiatrist recommended Campral. What a God send. I lost my desire for alcohol within a few months but remained on the drug for over a year. I decided on my own to stop the drug and have not drunk any alcohol for well over three years. In my view, this is an amazing drug, and of course, I am grateful beyond words for it.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I used Campral a couple of years ago and it worked great, although it did give me terrible gas. I stopped taking it and have relapsed and I am getting back on it. It really worked. Thank God for the help.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I've been taking Campral for a few weeks, and am amazed at the difference in my cravings. I've been a daily drinker for 6-7 years. I've been to inpatient rehab, outpatient, countless AA meetings and counseling. This has been a miracle of sorts. I'm only a few weeks in, but I'm not white knuckling it this time. I just don't want to drink because my brain is no longer screaming for one.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I had been an alcoholic for over 12 years. I tried AA, counseling, therapy, quitting by myself. Thank God, my doctor decided to try me with Campral after going to the hospital several times and detox. Since Campral, I have not had a drop of alcohol for almost a year. May 24, 2009 will be my anniversary. I haven't had a craving, and haven't had an interest to have a drink. My question is why don't we hear about this wonderful drug. I had almost given up until I started taking Campral.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: I have not had a drink since January 12, 2009. I am in AA and just received my 90 day sobriety chip. I was a very heavy drinker for the majority of my adult life and had very little faith that I could kick the habit. I spent 31 days in rehab and began taking Campral once I was discharged. I have NO desire to drink and I'm happier and feel better than I have in 20 years. Praise God. I recommend it to anyone who has the desire to quit drinking.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: This has saved my life. I felt like I was starting to get out of control with my drinking, going through life week to week. Then I realized it could be different. This is awesome. I can't believe how well it works and neither can my husband. I'm great now. First thing I always did when I got home from work, was pour a vodka tonic, now... nothing. I have a new lease on life after work. I can drive after dinner.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: This is a miracle drug for me. I was a daily drinker, at least a pint a day, usually more. I couldn't go more than 3 days without a drink and I was craving and miserable the whole time. I started Campral 2 weeks ago and haven't had a drink since. I have absolutely no desire to drink. I'm astounded. Campral could put rehab centers out of business, haha (joking). This stuff is AWESOME! I also see a psychologist every 2 weeks, and a psychiatrist once a month, so I'm getting therapy along with Campral, which is what they recommend.

Campral (acamprosate) for Alcohol Dependence: Thank God for this medication. Campral really does work and I feel like I have my life back. For me it has completely taken away the urge to drink, which is really saying something for a guy that drank every day for as long as I can remember. It still takes will power and a commitment to quit but Campral is the help I deperately needed. If you have a problem please see your doctor and ask him or her about this.
