EKC-Cide Study Results Presented at National Ophthalmology Meeting

WEST HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov 10, 2008 - NanoViricides, Inc. (OTC BB: NNVC.OB) (the "Company"), reported today that the Feinstein Institute of Medical Research scientists presented their study of the "Effect of Topical Nanoviricides in a Rabbit Model of EKC" (epidemic kerato-conjunctivitis) at the 42nd annual meeting of the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group (OMIG) in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday, November 7, 2008. The OMIG meeting was held in conjunction with the International Joint Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the European Society of Ophthalmology (SEO).

"The presentation was received with great enthusiasm," said Dr. Howard Fields, Vice-President of Virology, NanoViricides, Inc., adding, "In fact, the prestigious Thygeson Lecturer this year, Dr. Y. J. Gordon, made several references to EKC-Cide(TM) as a highly promising drug for EKC treatment in his survey of the landscape of adenoviral diseases of the eye and their treatment."

Briefly, two broad-spectrum nanoviricides were found to be clinically highly effective against adenoviral EKC. Both significantly reduced conjunctivial injection (severe redness of the eye) as well as blepharitis (stickiness, swelling, furriness). One of the nanoviricides was more effective in rapidly resolving the pathology, than the other one. NanoViricides, Inc. has previously announced the study preliminary findings as they were received by the Company.

The Company believes that such strong clinical findings have not been reported previously for any other safe therapeutics in development against EKC.

"We now have very strong interest from major pharmaceutical companies for the EKC-Cide drug candidate," said Anil R. Diwan, PhD, President of the Company, adding "We are working towards Materials Transfer Agreements so that our potential Pharma partners may conduct further evaluations of EKC-Cide on their own."

At present there are no drugs available for the treatment of viral EKC.
