Data from Phase IIb trial of Elocalcitol in BPH presented at the annual meeting of the American Urological Association
MILAN, Italy, May 21, 2008 - BioXell S.p.A. (SWX: BXLN) today presents the data from its successful Phase IIb trial of Elocalcitol in BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) in a podium presentation at the American Urological Association Annual Meeting (AUA) in Orlando, Florida.
The key conclusions being presented are that Elocalcitol is effective in improving maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax) and ameliorating lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), as well as arresting prostate growth and preventing the risk of Acute Urinary Retention (AUR) and need for surgery, all of which are key parameters of BPH progression. These characteristics, together with an exceptional and placebo-like safety profile, indicate Elocalcitol's strong potential to become the monotherapy of choice for BPH treatment.
Prof. Francesco Montorsi from the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan (Italy) and lead investigator of the study, who presented the data at the AUA, commented, "The presentation of these results at one of the most renowned international urology conferences is an important step in gaining greater awareness among the urology community of a potential shift in treatment strategy for BPH. Judging from the many one-on-one discussions we have already had regarding Elocalcitol with other experts in the field, we expect a lot of additional interest in these results."
