Calistoga Pharmaceuticals Announces Presentations on CAL-101 and CAL-120 at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr 21, 2009 - Calistoga Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the leader in the development of isoform-selective phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K) inhibitors for the treatment of cancer and inflammatory diseases, today announced that Neill Giese, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer, presented preclinical data on CAL-101, an oral p110 delta selective PI3K inhibitor, and CAL-120, an oral PI3K inhibitor with p110 beta inhibition, during a PI3K symposium at the American Association for Cancer Research 100th Annual Meeting 2009 in Denver, Colorado. In addition, Dr. Heather Webb of Calistoga Pharmaceuticals presented preclinical data on the favorable nonclinical safety and pharmacokinetics of CAL-101 during a poster session.
Dr. Giese participated as an invited speaker during the AACR symposium: “PI3K Oncoprotein and Drug Targets.” The session was chaired by Peter K. Vogt, of The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, Calif. Dr. Giese's presentation highlighted preclinical efficacy results from in vitro and in vivo studies evaluating CAL-101 in cell lines and primary patient cells of hematologic malignancies. CAL-101, a first-in-class, oral p110 delta selective PI3K inhibitor, is currently being evaluated in a Phase I trial in patients with hematologic malignancies. Early clinical results will be presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology in May.
Dr. Giese also presented preclinical efficacy data evaluating CAL-120 in solid tumor cell lines and in solid tumor xenograft mouse models. CAL-120 is an oral, novel PI3K inhibitor with p110 beta inhibition being developed for the treatment of patients with solid tumor malignancies. CAL-120 is currently under evaluation in IND-enabling studies.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to present data on CAL-101 and CAL-120 at this major cancer scientific meeting,” said W. Michael Gallatin, Ph.D., President, Calistoga Pharmaceuticals. “CAL-101 and CAL-120 provide unique profiles to advance our knowledge of the functions of selected isoforms of PI3K in both hematologic and solid tumor malignancies. We look forward to generating clinical data to further support our hypotheses.”
