ASCO Selects 28 Sarah Cannon Studies for Presentation at Annual Meeting

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2008 - The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has selected 28 of the 41 abstracts submitted by Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) for presentation at the 2008 ASCO Annual Meeting, placing SCRI among the leaders of all cancer research institutions.

The meeting, which takes place May 31-June 3 in Chicago, attracts more than 30,000 cancer specialists and is considered the premier oncology research conference in the world.

"Having two-thirds of our 41 submitted papers accepted for presentation is an outstanding achievement," said Dee Anna Smith, SCRI chief executive officer. "Our researchers are passionate about improving patient care and finding new and more effective cancer treatments."

Two of the abstracts were chosen for oral presentation at a clinical science symposium, indicating that these research studies are among the best at the conference. One of the studies will be presented by SCRI Chief Scientific Officer John Hainsworth, M.D., and is a Phase II trial of a new combination of targeted agents (everolimus/bevacizumab) in the treatment of patients with advanced clear cell renal carcinoma. The other study will be presented by SCRI Investigator of Drug Development and GI Cancer Research Jeffrey Infante, M.D. and is a Phase I trial of a novel targeted agent (AZD4877) in the treatment of patients with refractory solid tumors.

The remaining studies focus on the efficacy of new combinations of medications and radiation in the treatment of breast, lung and gastrointestinal cancers, lymphoma and refractory malignancies. There are 14 abstracts that will be presented at general poster sessions and 12 that are included in poster discussion sessions.

SCRI principal investigators presenting include Howard A. Burris III, M.D.; John D. Hainsworth, M.D.; F. Anthony Greco, M.D.; Denise A. Yardley, M.D.; David R. Spigel, M.D.; Suzanne F. Jones, Pharm.D.; and Jeffrey R. Infante, M.D. The study findings were completed through the collaborative effort of physician researchers across SCRI's community-based network in 23 states.
