Generic Name: Panitumumab Injection Solution (PAN-i-TOOM-ue-mab)
Brand Name: Vectibix

Skin problems, including itching, redness, dryness, cracking, acne-like rash, and infection of the fingernails or toenails, are common with Panitumumab Solution. Severe skin problems, including swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; skin infection; and infected sores (abscesses) may also occur. Serious and sometimes fatal systemic infections have also occurred along with severe skin problems. Be sure to report any unusual skin changes to your doctor right away.

Some patients may experience a reaction when they receive Panitumumab Solution. Symptoms may include trouble breathing, fever, chills, and dizziness or lightheadedness. Tell your health care provider right away if you have any of these symptoms. Discuss the risks and benefits of using Panitumumab Solution with your doctor.

Treating colon or rectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Panitumumab Solution is a monoclonal antibody. It works to treat certain types of cancer by binding to a protein (endothelial growth factor receptor [EGFR]) found on cancer cells. This reduces the growth and survival of the cancer.

Do NOT use Panitumumab Solution if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Panitumumab Solution
  • you are receiving irinotecan along with 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin (IFL therapy)

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Panitumumab Solution:

Some medical conditions may interact with Panitumumab Solution. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you have a history of lung problems (eg, pulmonary fibrosis), skin problems, eye problems, or stomach or intestinal problems
  • if you have low calcium or magnesium levels

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Panitumumab Solution. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Irinotecan along with 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin (IFL therapy) because severe diarrhea may occur

How to use Panitumumab Solution:

Use Panitumumab Solution as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Panitumumab Solution is usually given as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic.
  • Do not use Panitumumab Solution if it is discolored or if the vial is cracked or damaged.
  • Do not shake Panitumumab Solution.
  • If you spill Panitumumab Solution on your skin, wash it off right away with soap and water.
  • If you miss a dose of Panitumumab Solution, contact your doctor right away.

Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Panitumumab Solution.

Important safety information:

  • Panitumumab Solution often causes skin reactions. Exposure to sunlight may make this worse. Avoid the sun, sunlamps or tanning booths while you use Panitumumab Solution. Use sunscreen or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Panitumumab Solution before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
  • Lab tests, including blood electrolytes, may be performed while you use Panitumumab Solution and for 8 weeks after you stop Panitumumab Solution. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • If you may become pregnant, you must use an effective form of birth control. You will need to continue to use birth control while you use Panitumumab Solution and for 6 months after you stop using it. If you have questions about effective birth control, talk with your doctor.
  • Panitumumab Solution should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Panitumumab Solution may cause harm to the fetus. Do not become pregnant while you are using it. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Panitumumab Solution while you are pregnant. It is not known if Panitumumab Solution is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while you use Panitumumab Solution or for 2 months after you stop using it.

Possible side effects of Panitumumab Solution:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Constipation; diarrhea; eyelash growth; mild acne; nausea; mild dryness, redness, or itching of the skin; stomach pain; tiredness; vomiting.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest congestion or tightness; cough; increased tearing; irritation, pain, redness, or swelling of the eye or eyelid; pain, redness, or swelling near the nailbed; irritation, redness, swelling, or sores in or around the mouth; moderate to severe skin changes (eg, cracking, peeling, swollen, blistered, or painful skin; moderate to severe acne; moderate to severe redness or itching); pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site; severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; shortness of breath; signs of infection (eg, fever, chills, sore throat); swelling of the ankles, feet, or hands; vision changes; wheezing.

Panitumumab Solution is usually handled and stored by a health care provider. If you are using Panitumumab Solution at home, store Panitumumab Solution as directed by your pharmacist or health care provider.
