Olux-E Emulsion
Generic Name: Clobetasol Emulsion Foam (kloe-BAY-ta-sol)
Brand Name: Olux-E
Olux-E Emulsion is used for:
Treating moderate to severe redness, inflammation, irritation, and itching caused by certain skin conditions.
Olux-E Emulsion is a topical corticosteroid. It works by reducing skin inflammation (redness, swelling, itching, and irritation).
Do NOT use Olux-E Emulsion if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Olux-E Emulsion
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Before using Olux-E Emulsion:
Some medical conditions may interact with Olux-E Emulsion. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have chickenpox, shingles, measles, or tuberculosis (TB), or have had a positive TB skin test or a recent vaccination
- if you have had a skin infection, thinning of the skin (atrophy), or a certain type of severe acne (rosacea)
- if you are taking an oral corticosteroid (eg, prednisone)
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Olux-E Emulsion. Because little, if any, of Olux-E Emulsion is absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.
Ask your health care provider if Olux-E Emulsion may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
How to use Olux-E Emulsion:
Use Olux-E Emulsion as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Wash your hands before using Olux-E Emulsion.
- Shake well before each use.
- Hold canister upside down to dispense the medicine. Apply the smallest amount necessary to cover the entire affected area as directed by your doctor. Do not use an amount larger than the size of a golf ball. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed and the foam has absorbed.
- Do not use Olux-E Emulsion on your face, groin, or underarms unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
- Wash your hands immediately after using Olux-E Emulsion, unless your hands are a part of the treated area.
- Do not bandage or wrap the affected area unless directed to do so by your doctor.
- If you miss a dose of Olux-E Emulsion, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Olux-E Emulsion.
Important safety information:
- Olux-E Emulsion is for external use only. Do not get it in your eyes, nose, mouth, on your lips, or near your genital area. If you get it in any of these areas, rinse right away with cool water.
- Do NOT use more than the recommended dose or use for longer than 2 weeks without checking with your doctor.
- If your symptoms do not get better within 2 weeks or if they get worse, check with your doctor.
- Talk with your doctor before you use any other medicines or cleansers on your skin.
- Do not use Olux-E Emulsion for other skin conditions at a later time.
- Olux-E Emulsion has a corticosteroid in it. Before you start any new medicine, check the label to see if it has a corticosteroid (eg, hydrocortisone) in it too. If it does or if you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
- Tell your doctor or dentist that you use Olux-E Emulsion before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
- Olux-E Emulsion is flammable. Do not store near fire or an open flame. Avoid fire, open flame, or smoking during and immediately after use.
- Check with your doctor before you receive any vaccinations while you are using Olux-E Emulsion.
- Corticosteroids may affect growth rate in CHILDREN and teenagers in some cases. They may need regular growth checks while they use Olux-E Emulsion.
- Olux-E Emulsion should not be used in CHILDREN younger than 12 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Olux-E Emulsion while you are pregnant. It is not known if Olux-E Emulsion is found in breast milk after topical use. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Olux-E Emulsion, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Possible side effects of Olux-E Emulsion:
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:Mild skin irritation.
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); acne-like rash; burning, cracking, irritation, peeling, or swelling not present before you began using Olux-E Emulsion; inflamed hair follicles; inflammation around the mouth; muscle weakness; thinning, softening, or discoloration of the skin; unusual weight gain, especially in the face.

If OVERDOSE is suspected:
Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org), or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include increased thirst or urination; muscle weakness; unusual weight gain, especially in the face.
Proper storage of Olux-E Emulsion:Store Olux-E Emulsion at room temperature, between 68 to 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C). Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not expose to heat or store at temperatures above 120 degrees F (49 degrees C). Do not puncture, break, or burn the canister even if it appears to be empty. Keep Olux-E Emulsion out of the reach of children and away from pets.
