Menveo is used for:
Preventing meningococcal infection caused by a certain type of bacteria (Neisseria meningitidis) in patients 2 through 55 years old.
Menveo is a vaccine. It works by causing your immune system to produce antibodies against certain meningococcal bacteria, which helps your body to fight the infection.
Do NOT use Menveo if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Menveo
- you have had a severe allergic reaction (eg, rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue) to a prior diphtheria toxoid or meningococcal-containing vaccination
- you have bleeding problems (eg, hemophilia, low platelets) or you are taking an anticoagulant (eg, warfarin)
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Before using Menveo:
Some medical conditions may interact with Menveo. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have immune system problems (eg, weakened immune system), or have recently had or are planning to have any other vaccinations
- if you have any infection or illness, or you are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy
- if you have a history of Guillain-Barré syndrome
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Menveo. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
- Medicines that suppress the immune system, such as corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), cancer chemotherapy medicines (eg, methotrexate), or cyclosporine, because they may decrease Menveo's effectiveness
- Anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) because the risk of bleeding may be increased
This may not be a complete list of all interactions that may occur. Ask your health care provider if Menveo may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.
How to use Menveo:
Use Menveo as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Menveo is usually given as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. Ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Menveo.
- Do not use Menveo if it has been frozen, contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged.
- After you receive Menveo, your doctor may monitor you for 15 minutes to watch for side effects.
- If you miss a dose of Menveo, contact your doctor right away.

Important safety information:
- Menveo may not work as well in patients who have immune system problems or are taking medicine that suppresses the immune system, such as corticosteroids (eg, prednisone). Tell your doctor if you have any immune system problems or other illnesses.
- Menveo should be used with extreme caution in patients older than 64 years; safety and effectiveness have not been confirmed.
- Menveo should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 11 years old; safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: It is not known if Menveo can cause harm to the fetus. If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Menveo while you are pregnant. It is not known if Menveo is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Menveo, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Possible side effects of Menveo:
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:Change in appetite; chills; diarrhea; drowsiness; headache; irritability; joint pain; mild fever; muscle pain; nausea; tenderness, hardening, pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site; tiredness or weakness.
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); fainting; high fever; mental or mood changes; seizure or uncontrolled body movements; severe dizziness; severe stomach pain; suicidal thoughts or actions; weakness in the arms, legs, or facial muscles.
