Primarily managing endometriosis, including pain relief and decreasing the size of lesions. It is used with iron therapy to improve anemia before surgery in patients with fibroids of the uterus. Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension may be used for treating conditions as determined by your doctor.

Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist. It works by decreasing levels of certain hormones and preventing the growth of certain tumors that need these hormones to grow.

Do NOT use Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension, to GnRH, or to other GnRH analogs (eg, histrelin)
  • you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breast-feeding
  • you have unusual vaginal bleeding of an unknown cause or known or suspected breast cancer
  • you have a history of blood clots or clotting problems, vein inflammation caused by a blood clot, stroke or other bleeding in the brain, or moderate to severe liver or kidney problems

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension:

Some medical conditions may interact with Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
  • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use tobacco regularly
  • if you have osteoporosis (brittle bones) or a family history of osteoporosis
  • if you have depression, mental disorders, memory problems, liver or kidney problems, high cholesterol (lipids), urinary blockage, or cancer that has spread to your backbone

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Anticonvulsants (eg, phenytoin) or corticosteroids (eg, prednisone) because the risk of brittle bones may be increased

How to use Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension:

Use Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

  • Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension comes with an additional patient leaflet. Read it carefully and reread it each time you get Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension refilled.
  • Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension is usually administered every 3 months as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. It must be administered under the supervision of a doctor.
  • Keep this product, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children. Do not reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain local regulations for proper disposal.
  • The suspension settles very quickly following reconstitution; therefore, it should be used immediately after mixing.
  • If you miss a dose of Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension, contact your doctor.

Important safety information:

  • Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension may cause dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension. Using Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
  • Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension usually stops menstruation (periods). Missing doses of Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension may cause breakthrough bleeding. Notify your doctor if regular menstruation continues.
  • Ovulation usually stops while using Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension but this is not a reliable form of birth control because breakthrough ovulation may occur during treatment. Hormonal birth control (eg, birth control pills) may also not be effective. A nonhormonal form of birth control (eg, condom, diaphragm) should be used during treatment with Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension.
  • A small decrease in bone density may occur during treatment with Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension. Your risk of bone loss may be increased if you use Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension for long periods of time (more than 6 months) or with other medicines that cause bone loss. If you are uncertain if your other medicines may increase risk of bone loss, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Lab tests are recommended before using Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension. A pregnancy test should be negative before starting treatment. A bone density test is recommended before being treated a second time with Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
  • Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension should not be used in ELDERLY patients older than 65 years of age.
  • Use Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension with extreme caution in CHILDREN younger than 18 years of age. Safety and effectiveness in this age group have not been confirmed.
  • PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: Do not use Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension if you are pregnant. If you suspect that you could be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. It is unknown if Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension is excreted in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while using Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension.

Possible side effects of Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Abnormal hair growth; abnormal skin sensations; acne; breast pain and tenderness; changes in breast size;changes in bowel function; change in weight; decreased sex drive; dizziness; headache; hot flashes/sweats; mood changes; muscle or joint pain; nausea or vomiting; nervousness; trouble sleeping; vaginal dryness; weakness.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); continued vaginal bleeding or menstrual periods; decreased urination; delusions; depression; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; memory problems; mental changes; severe or persistent mood changes; shortness of breath; suicidal thoughts; swelling of the ankles or hands.

Proper storage of Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension:

Store Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Lupron Depot 11.25 mg Suspension out of the reach of children and away from pets.
