If you have a bad day for instance with more seizures, can you take another dose?

My step son is visiting he takes both ImTrigine 200mg. and Zonisamide, 50mg, He has frequent seizures but has done quite well for the last month. Today he's having constant seizures. We don't know if we can give him an extra dose of one or the other medications in this situation or not.
