The doc. recommended my 80 yr. old mother take an annual injection of Zoledronic Acid, but after reading the side effects I'm concerned this may not be the best protocol. She currently takes 1 pill a month, but has trouble swallowing meds. Her doctor suggested the injection, but her Medicare Part D does not cover it.
Zoledronic Acid - Is this medication appropropriate for an 80 yr. old femaie?

What was the name of the tablet she was taking once a month? Have you considered crushing the tablet immediately prior to use and giving it mixed in something sweet eg. ice cream, jam, chocolate milk or juice. This may be a solution. You should discuss with your mothers doctor the pros and cons of having the Zoledronic Acid injection. There are certainly many warnings and precautions and given her age I would want to be sure that this is the best treatment for her.
