hey guys I just started taking xanex (2mg) for about a year now but I do not take them on a regular basis. I would only take them when I felt like I was having a panic attack or anxious. I got to the point where i would just take them a few times a week. Then one weekend I hadn't taken them for three days or so and I had a bad seizure. But I had also not eaten in two days and only drank alcohol and I used cocaine. My question is how much xanex can it take to cause a withdrawal so bad as my seizure? The doctors said it was from severe dehydration but I am worried the xanex could have had something to do with it. I just don't want to have another seizure. So how much xanex does it take for it to cause a withdrawal as bad as this or was it just dehydration?

That is very difficult to say. If you are use to taking daily or even everyother day then I would say that if you went three days without taking a seizure is possible though if you are only taking upto 2 mgs a day every few days then it most likely was dehydration and the lack of food with the alcohol. Everyone's body is different so this is a tough one to answer with certainty. Do be careful mixing your drugs and drinking on top of them, can be risky indeed.

Hi Kathryn... if you were not taking Xanax on a regular basis I doubt u went into WD with a subsequent seizure. Benzodiazepines are drugs that are used to treat seizures. Have given IV Valium to patients having seizures many times to stop the seizure. Benzodiazepines raise the seizure threshold in the brain which makes it harder to have a seizure. On the other hand cocaine is excitatory and lowers the seizure threshold which makes it easier to have a seizure. My educated guess is that your seizure was more likely due to the cocaine combined with dehydration and alcohol. It is very dangerous to mix alcohol and cocaine... add the dehydraion and you have a recipe for disaster. Please be more careful my friend...
