Xanax used to treat ambien tolerance, is this counter productive as Xanax is addictive?

Xanax can be addictive, but not without your cooperation -- and it's considered to be a good next step for getting off Ambien. The thinking these days medically and even governmentally is more towards encouraging gentle steps away from addictions so that more dangerous rebound behaviors are minimized.

I have taken as much as 2mg a day of Xanax regularly in the past, and currently take a 1/2 mg only now and again, not even daily. It's easy to taper off as long as you don't take excessive quantities for long periods of time.

As for your tolerance after 7 years, my doctor told me it was best just not to take it for a few nights (like 3 or 4). No, you may not get any sleep, but it gives your body a chance to "restart", so the next time you take it, it'll work better. Try eating roasted chicken or turkey (prepackaged) without the bread. It has chemicals that induce sleep. Yes, Xanax is addictive. The higher the dose, the more you're addicted.
