I was taking xanax .25 to .50 as needed for a few months. My Dr switched me to klonopin .25 twice a day. I have tried for a few days but am more anxious than i was before. Can i just switch back to the xanax? Is .25 three times a day a dangerous dosage of xanax? I am petrified of meds!!! (after a terrible experience with lexapro)

You can switch back. The reason you are probably experiencing less of an effect is that Klonopin has a longer half life where as Xanax is immediate and doesn't last long in your system. .25mg TID (Three times a day) is a great dose for most people. Just so you know you can take you to 10mg of Xanax a day without a problem. You can even take Xanax .25 QID (Four times a day) if needed. I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions. Good Luck and Happy Hoilday!

Number 1 xanax taken correctly can be a wonderful life changing medication. I know this I take it and YES it did change my life. I believe doctors are trying to switch nervous patients fearing tolerance or problems to something less liked or abused ie: Klonopin.. I have taken it too. I
after a few years wasted finally took the leap as I was home bound. With Xanax and therapy I was able to start coming out.. and you get used to it and form a tolerance and have to be weaned off it just the same for both! Don't be fooled. Medication has a designed reason: to make your life better, to help you be more of a functioning person and hopefully more successful. People that say Klonopin is not addictive or be able to just stop it are full of it.. u know BS. I'm not pulling for either/ or but you and your doctor need to talk if you have increased anxiety and feel no relief from the new med. Period. We are only here to discuss and maybe help you better understand medical/ medicine issues. On the other side Klonopin does take a bit longer to see full benefit. I took it awhile and weaned off it. Talk to your doctor and especially if you don't feel like yourself.. or condition worsens. Take care.

wow... what a trip!!! Xanax can be dangerous but not if taken correctly,.25 4x a day = 1.0mg. not 10mg.It will also cause a lot of memory loss... but all meds have side effects... I wish my Dr. would give me some Xanax... he wont bc I was addicted to them. But their are other drugs out there.Whatever works for you and your Dr.,that is the key.If you mix alcohol with Xanax you can really get into some trouble... I just wanted to add my 2 cents bc I did take the 2mg. bars 3x a day for 11 years then my Dr. died. and boy was I in for a long long withdrawl... I couldnt find another Dr. to give them to me... I thought I was going to die... it was horrible ... I hope you find some relief with whatever meds you and your Dr. decide to go with... give it time... they all take time to get into your system... praying for you... Tina from Texas
