I have been using metrocream on the skin around my lips and chin area for 6 days. While eating lunch a small amount of vinegar from my sandwich dribbled down my chin causing it to burn. I put ice on it for a couple of hours on and off to numb the area. I could not sleep due to the pain and discovered blisters the size of peas had formed the next morning.
Would using metrocream and eating vinegar cause a chemical burn?

It sounds like it could have. Metrocream in of itself has been known to cause skin irritation. You may actually have burned the area with the ice. You should never apply ice to bare skin because it can burn. Just the application of cool water should have been used. You need to make an appt to see your Dr asap or go to Urgent Care to have the blisters treated so they dont become infected. Your Dr will probably have you hold the Metrocream for a while but ask just the same. Dont delay in getting treatment because this area can become infected very easily.

Thank you for your response. Just wanted you to know that I did wrap the ice in paper towels. I took your advice and went to the emergency room. The doctor said I have shingles and did a culture. He did not treat the burn so I called my doctor and went to see her. She said that we need to wait for the culture to come back prior to treating the burn. The hospital sent out the culture and this process could take 2 to 3 days for the results. Meanwhile my burns have not been treated. I am in no pain but afraid of infection and scaring. At this point, I just don't understand how I can be diagnosed without any symptoms of shingles other than the blisters. Here's the real kicker, I have never had chicken pox that I know of. I realize there can be very mild cases but none of my siblings have ever had it either. I guess we'll find out soon enough and hopefully my burn will heal on its own. Thank you again for advice.
Finally received the culture back and it was negative for shingles. The blisters are from the burn. However, I would like to report this reaction with metrocream. Do you have any suggestions?
