I got prescribed to this yesterday and have not yet taken it because I'm scared of the side effects. I suffer from anxiety. Its only 10mg tablets. I have a phobia of throwing up to and I don't want it to make me sick to my stomach.

You won't get better if you don't take your medicine. Taking it is the only way to see if it works. Everything has sides, most do not have an affect on most all. Hope this helps. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Atarax:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); involuntary movements.

I have been prescribed Atarax 25mg to be taken once in the morning. It is used off label to treat mild anxiety. It is in the antihistamine class of drugs. I did not experience any side effects though some people may experience just a bit of drowsiness, but then 10mg is a very low dose. It is available OTC. It is definitely not potent and addictive as tranquilisers of the benzodiazepine class of drugs. kcfp
