I started using Carac cream in mid August on my nose. The cream has found multiple areas now on my cheeks, a few areas on my lower lip (actinic chellitis??), and now is starting up on my forhead. If the areas are bumpy and look like a rash, but not yet scaling over, should I continue applying the cream? How long should I keep using Carac on new breakouts? This is very difficult, and I look awful.
With increasing breakouts using Carac, how long can I expect treatment to go on?

Hi, it would be helpful to know how long you have been applying the cream, and if the breakouts have become more frequent since starting the treatment. I ask because sometimes a person can have allergic reactions to the cream showing symptoms that you are displaying. Treatment can be a long process, there isn't really a definite length of treatment outline, but studies confirm that the skin can sometimes take a month or 2 to heal after stopping the cream! Are the breakout areas inflammed, damaged or have open sores? If so you should discontinue use of the cream. I think you should seek advice from your doctor about this really to put your mind at rest. Sorry i couldn't be of much help

Thank you, Delila for your post. I have been using the cream since mid August, but only applying as the areas continue to expand... Luckily I see my dermatologist next week. There are no open sores, but just red skin and bumpy areas. The areas that are starting to exfoliate, I have stopped the application of the cream. Also, I see some brown spots in some of the exfoliating areas - I assume these are the worst of the AK spots, and so to get rid of them is a good thing. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately in terms of fighting this condition, the cream seems to be bringing out all sorts of damaged skin. This all started with just a couple of small areas on the nose, which were treated with nitrogen, and also Carac... Wish the whole thing were over; it's taking a long time!
