I have gained 5 pounds this winter. I always gain in the winter, but now I really need to get it off. During the week I eat really well. No junk food. I eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. I even drink some green tea and water too. Recently I went to see the doctor because my stomach is so bloated and round. He gave me a paper to have an ultrasound done. It is in July only. Waiting list of course. I have noticed that I get worse when I eat bread or carbohydrates. I was wondering if any of you have healthy snacks ideas or any other suggestions on loosing weight. Oh yeah! I walked at least 4 hours a week depending of our canadian weather here. Any opinions welcome! Thanks in advance. :)

Hi the first things that come to my mind would be IBS or a slow metabolism affected by the cold weather, much like if a person is very thin, the body wants to retain weight to keep the body warm in winter (as well as increased hair growth sometimes). Do you get affected by SAD? If you do you might find yourself comfort eating or eating more carbohydrates, sometimes without realising? Do you drink alcohol much? This can also be a cause of weight gain especially over Christmas and New year. I can't think of anything else? I hope this helps & hope you get some more responses

Hi Delila,
How are you doing yourself? Thanks for your response. Lets see, I have hypothyroid but it is balanced. My metabolism is slower in the winter. I have no Sad. I don't comfort eat and don't drink any alcool in the winter. I only have a beer at BBQ or rum and coke when I visit my sister which is about 4 times a year. I guess I will have to wait for nicer weather so I'm not so cold. I have been freezing all winter. Oh yeah! My lithium has been making gain some weight but I thought it was stable by now. I guess it's the cold winter in Canada.
Hi i hope you receive some more insight to your question...
I hope you don't think i'm taking advantage, but do you know if lithium and librium are linked in any way? I'm in the UK but was prescribed librium in Africa, i am running out and not sure my dr will prescribe more? To buy privately they are £2.50 per 10mg tab, and i usually take 2-4 each day!!
Hi Delila, I don't know if Lithium and your med are similar. I guess you could just bring them both up in Drugs.com and see what they are made of. Of course the pharmacist could tell you right away also. You could ask him/her what is another option that would be good for you that is similar to your med. Hope this helps! Let me know what your doctor decides o.k.? Take care. Lynne smileyhappy.
Thanks so much for answering that. I am not taking this med through my doctor though so need to fine out myself. I will check the website as you suggest.
Do you eat you daily calorie content as the saying goes; 'Eat like a KING for breakfast, a QUEEN for lunch, and a PORPER for dinner/supper'. This should keep you satisfied during the day, as well as giving your body the chance to burn of the calories more effectively, and also should help you sleep better.
Hi Delila,
Lets see I eat a small breakfast, a small lunch and a regular supper. I don't eat after that except for water. But during the weekend I eat a bit of junk food. I'm so disapointed that I can't lose weight especially when the nice weather is starting in Canada. Were are you from? I guess we should be writting in private eh? You can if you would like. How did your search go with your meds? smiley happy Lynne.
