Opana (Oxymorphone) is not oxycodone+morphine. Almost nobody is happy with the transistion from OC to Opana, I haven't read a single user report where they were happy with the switch. You may be better off talking to your doctor about increasing your BT drug, maybe to a 15mg oxy IR, you don't need all the apap anyway.

bastel55, (Julia), Yes, I beleive it will. It is oxy-morphone hydtrchloride, so it is a morhine. I can't imagine the pain you must suffer and I really feel for you.
I don't blame you for being so frightened of the surgery. I would ask my Dr. for it, you shouldn't have to live in this level of pain. Maybe a change from percocet to a different equally potent pain killer would also be helpful, you've probably buiilt up some resistance to percocet. Maybe a fentanyl patch (they start at 25 mcg/24hr and there's room for increasing the dose over a period of time if needed.
I hope he works with you... it sounds like he's been willing to in the past, ,but as your pain increases, it needs to be addressed.
Good luck and God Bless you,

I am so sorry you're having so much pain, I know it is not an easy problem to deal with especially when it comes to trying different medications to try and keep it under control. I've been on Opana, it did nothing for me. I am on a similar drug called Kadian, a slow release morphine capsules, with 7.5/325/mg for breakthrough pain, I only take one tablet if I really need it, and I am allowed to take up to four a day, if you read my bio, you'll see how many fusions I've already had, and soon to have another one within the next two months.
My advice would to ask for some sort of Fentanyl patch, they start at 25mcg and go as far as 100 mcg. some doctors have you change the patch anywhere from 24 to 72 hours depending on the doc. I couldn't use patches due to my latex allergy.
You are on a lot of strong pain meds now, and in my personal opinion I would be very careful. One reason is, once you do have surgery you may find that almost every drug you try will not give you the relief you're looking for, simply because your body is already so accustomed to large amounts of narcotics already. .that being said, no drug ever takes our pain away completely, if you can work out something with your doc just so you can at the very least be somewhat comfortable. Chronic back pain is the worst pain to deal with, and constant throughout life, it appears no matter what doctors try to do, they can never relieve all our pain. That is not to say other disorders or diseases are as equally painful and just as difficult and very painful in every respect. So depressing and hard to deal with, but it can be done, if you try to remain as possible as you possibly can.
I know the fear of having this type of surgery, try your best to keep a positive mind about this all, it is much to deal with. Positive thoughts, in my most humble opinion bring on much more positive results. That may seem trite I do not mean for it to sound that way though. My prayers are with you and all the folks here are always willing to help out, so come back as often as you like, we each have our own way of dealing with pain, and the advice here is phenomenal. I'll pray your surgery goes well for you and that you get adequate pain relief my dear. My heart goes out to you.
If you want to talk one on one I would be happy to do so, just click on me as a personal friend, and the conversations are private OK..
Good Luck and all the prayers I can muster up are being sent your way!
