he gave me this med to take for my head acks adn i cant take it when i have a really bad ack my bottle says take one tablet by mouth every 3 days when needed
Why would my doctor give me sumatriptan to take every three days?

No that doesn't sound right.
Sumatriptan is given to treat a migraine that has started or is about to start.
It is not used as a preventative treatment.
Ring your doctor or pharmacist for clarification of instructions.
