... is hard as a rock, it can still by cut by a pill cutter. The OP seems to not work as well as the OC. I'm having to take 2 + amount of the OP for the pain relief. Can you tell me why? Now I have to watch closely, remain immobile for periods of time, and skip doses to have the same Daily Activities I have had in the past. IAW (in otherwords) I am restricted as to what I can do, instead of having the pain relief I once had. One day immobile for one day of activity. Why the change?

Hello,
The new tamper-proof Oxycontin pill makes it more difficult for opiate addicts to crush, melt or inject the pill. Oxycontin is intended for swallowing, and it releases oxycodone in incremented doses for a period of 12 hours. When snorted or injected, opiate abusers feel a quick high that is dangerous and can sometimes be lethal.
The New Tamper-Proof Oxycontin Pill Characteristics
The appearance of the new pill versus the current Oxycontin pill is the same. The stamp on the front of the pill is labeled “OP” instead of “OC.” The colors are the same for each milligram dosage.
Take care

I campaigned to Purdue Pharma for 4yrs now trying to get them to make a "smart pill" that can't be tampered with as it has been the only strong med that I can take that I'm not totally allergic to and felt that doctors would feel safer in prescribing it and patients would be safer for having it.
I just picked up my own new script today and did try the generic form after it was available and found it to be at least 40% less effective after a little over two weeks on it and continued to take it for that month. When I reported to the doctor that I didn't feel it was as effective by a lot, he then informed me that even he felt it was a lot less effective and his partner agreed to this also.
RSDHURTZME: Hello from a totally confused Sacosam. this one has me. I read your post twice. Twice I stopped at your question that begins..".Anyone else think this question is more about how to abuse this med."... I do , I aggree with you but i'm unfortunately not sure. I will tell you exactly what my Spirit Guide told me as He leans back against nothing, folds his arms, smiles, and says "wait... and see"! That's what he told me. I hate it when He does that , which is probably why He does it. He has a fantastic sense of humor. I can go no further tonight. To all I have spoken with tonight on the subject of Opiates, niggles, and how to untie my shoes, I know only one thing for sure... if I pull on both single strings on both sides, one of the loops will dissapear, my shoes will get loose, my feet will fall out, and i,m gonna crash... G'NIGHT ALL! LOVE YA" Sacosam
After reading several comments which basically equate attempts to cut the new oxycontin with "abuse," I feel I have to chime in. Maybe I am missing something here but if the new formula binds each pill with a polymer (making it impossible to crush into a powder) then logically, wouldn't cutting the pill in half simply result in "half a pill" which is still bound by the polymer? And wouldn't the result simply be one half of the original dose? If this is correct, then how could cutting it in half be called "abuse?"
In light of this new formula, I think asking if this pill can be cut in half is a perfectly reasonable question for someone wanting to try a smaller dose.

FIrst Hi Sis tah love ya ; Hello maso, are you ok? to both of you I must say that i am not comfortable with either of your posts. Y ou both have stated your positions, and I respect both you and your opinions. At present, I find myself at a loss for words [which is quite unusual]. I am being blocked by my Spirit guide, who has effectively said,"shut up , wait , lets see what happens. But I am allowed my opinion, and my opinion is that the change from OCs to OPs, and two or three other little opiate "niggles" is all about Big- Pharma and the almighty DOLLAR!! Shall we wait and see my friends ! Sacosam
I usually keep my thoughts to myself or don't answer questions like this. I did apologize if for any reason I am wrong because I do not want to hurt someone's feelings that did nothing wrong to begin with. I actually do believe this person is in pain; real pain. The price is the same; no change in cost but this was already one very expensive medication for someone like me who gets NO help 8mos out of the year paying full price in the "gap/donut hole".
I hate all pharma companies as I feel nobody should have to pay close to $600 for one prescription for any health condition. I'm not rich either; far from it.
I don't have a "spirit guide" but I do have my own intuition that is right about 98% of the time. I understand your questioning our replies but also I think you understand our questioning the question itself; all in the way things are worded my friend.

We are trying to figure out if my dad can extend his dosage by cutting his pills in half

Not only that Maso, the pill itself (either OP or OC) are NEVER to be cut in half. Would you please clarify something for me? I was told thag if you tamper with the new OP (cut, crush, chew) that it causes the oxycodone to lose its' effectiveness. Is this true? If so, it sounds like most of the people dissatisfied with this new version are the ones most likely misusing them. I'm not accusing anyone but most posts ask 'Why are they so hard to crush?' That indicates to me, abuse. What am I missing here Maso?
Hi Chris, I read that if you crush them they turn into some useless type of jelly, the manufacturers took every precaution in order for them not to be abused anymore, and people who really need them for medical purposes are being affected.-
Take care Chris.

The new OP's are terrible. Let's just hope they don't make a complete change to them. I'm already seeing everyone's being replaced with them. It's not much u can do with them but swallow them, or put them in the freezer for a little while to harden the binders to make them break down by grinding them down with a hose clap or that thing you use to take dry skin off of your feet (it's made of steel wool or something) Hope this helps.
P.S. It might be a good idea to ask your doctor to switch you to immediate release oxycodone 30mg pills (also known as roxiecontin)
Mason4169 is right. i've od once by taking seven 80's one day, which is not too unusual but you never know when things can go wrong. The only problem with the op's is that it only releases about ten mg every hour, and thats just not enought for someone in serious pain with a tolerance like myself. try asking your physician too switch or add roxiecontin for immediate relief from extreme pain, because peolple who are not addicted to opiates or people with cancer or have a serious illness like myself will never know what it's like. Actually they can't even comprehend it at all !
