Dexamethazone gives the patient a sense of artificial well being even euforia, which in a case like you are talking about could be useful. It will hardly affect the survival time in a terminal case. But this artifical well being will give comfort to the lung cancer patient.
I was given decadrone to reduce inflammation due to my brain tumor, it helped the swelling, but the other side effects for me where very bad and I insisted the doctors wean me off the stuff, I am only familiar with my own cancer situation, but you may want to look at its properties related to inflammation and lung cancer or ask your doctor to take the time to explain it to you!
