He's given me injections of Ultram for migraine headaches but never for Fibro. He's an internal medicine doctor shouldn't he have suggusted that as an option rather than giving me Naproxen? (which isnt any better than 2 tablets of Alleve) I also have arthritis in my lower back. Today I went to see my doc about the pain I'm having and he took xrays but didnt schedule me back at any time. I also took my friend in with me to see what she thought of him. She wasn't impressed. She said that he didn't seem sympathetic, and wondered if he'd treat his wife that way. :) I called back and talked to his nurse and told her that I used to take Methocarbamol for muscle relaxer and he sent in a prescription for that. I've had him as a doctor for a little over 1 year.

Hi i also have had fibromyalgia over 12 years before anyone knew about it and i had to go to a Rhumatologist to get help. I have many problems but at least i get pain pills that help somewhat but not a cure all as you will see if anyone else answers your question. if your Dr. is not that sympathetic to your problems it is time to find one that is as they are out there. But a rhumatologist i would think is the best place to start. I know i didn't spell that properly.Leron

I think you need to find a rheumatologist who has researched fibro. Doctors will treat fibro but that doesn't mean they know anything about it.
It's a neuromuscular syndrome and you need to be on pain killers like Tramadol (Ultram), muscle relaxant, and an antidepressant to help stabilize your hormones. And if you don't get restful sleep, you may need a sleep aid.
Since you also have arthritis, it wouldn't hurt if you get opiods. It depends on your pain level of course.
I have several documents on fibro on my Facebook site at Boise Fibromyalgia Support Group that might help you understand the condition more.
FYI: I also suffer from fibro, osteoarthritis in my knees-spine-hands, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative disc disease, migraines, etc.
