WHy do I have to give a full glass of water with dilaudid? Should a stool softener be taken?

Pat, I too take dilaudid, but do not take it with a full glass of water. I have no difficulty as a result. I do take stool softeners twice daily and miralax to help relieve any constipation problems. My dilaudid doses are 8mg twice a day, it is time released and I find the range of relief is generally eight to 12 hours depending on my activities and pain. I am recovering from my second knee replacement on the same knee in less than a year plus other chronic pain injuries and conditions. This is the best medication for me, but doctors will fight to get you off of it. Don't let them. The other pain meds carry very serious side effects, do not mix medications. I hope this helps.
