Why amitipyline/perphenazine and not lexapro or paxil etc?

Were you prescibed those meds and wondering why not lexapro?What were you diagnosed with?

Different drugs affect different chemicals in the brain. For example,

amitriptyline affects serotonin and norepinephrine
perphenazine affects dopamine
lexapro and paxil only effect serotonin.

Therefore, a doctor may use amitriptyline and perphenazine to correct an imbalance in those chemicals mentioned which would not be corrected by Lexapro or Paxil alone.
