Why am I craving oxycodone?

Hi The Cleo,
You do know that Roxis are also Oxycodone, don't you? Percocet and OxyContin are all Oxycodone. So with the Roxis you were taking 210 mg a day, and now you're down to 150 mg a day, and that's probably the answer right there. However, OxyContin is a slow time released version of the drug, and I'm sure it feels different than Roxis which are immediate release tabs. This difference in how the drug is released into your body may also be a factor in you craving. But I think the smaller dose is the main reason.

No Cleo, I don't. I think it's because your body got used to the higher dosage. Are you getting other withdrawal symptoms too, or is it just cravings that are bothering you? I don't understand why your Doc cut you down so much all at once. Unless you have only been taking Oxy a few weeks or a couple of months, he should have known this would happen to you. He put you in an awkward position.
You are right when you said you won't take more. If you do, and he finds out, he may throw you out of his office. If the cravings are too strong to endure you have to tell him somehow. Just don't say, I need more or I want more. You won't get it and he'll think you're a drug seeker.
I think you can do 1 of 2 things. You can tell him you feel cravings and they're driving you crazy. Say something like, I need your help Doc, I can't live like this.

My other idea is to tell him you have too much pain this way. In other words blame it on the pain. He may increase your OxyContin dose, or he might switch you to another drug.
I hope some more members come along and answer this too, because I'm never quite sure how to handle this when it happens to me.
I hope this helped a little.
Thank you Thor, you have given me an education as well, I've always thought that roxicette was a bit different from oxycodone, don't know why!!
I appreciate the education, I've learned a lot from you sir!!

Lara, I didn't know there is a Roxicet, until you said it. I checked it and it is what it sounds like, Oxycodone and Tylenol. So it's like Percocet only with even more Oxy in it. The pill descriptions don't usually tell you how much is in a pill. That requires more clicking and a fast Internet connection. But my guess is 15 mg and 30 mg of Oxy are in Roxicet. But there is still a Roxicodone pill, and that one is just pure IR Oxycodone. So I'm not sure what this means to you. I do know that different formulations of many drugs feel, and often act different in us. As far as I'm concerned this is now a fact. It isn't supposed to be true, but what is and is supposed to be, are different things. And now more and more people are confirming this. So it's not just me.Cleo, as I feared you are getting more withdrawal symptoms. Do you think your Doc thought you were hooked on Roxi so he switched you to Oxycontin? That may be fine, but IMO he cut your dose way too much at once.Cleo, as I feared you are getting more withdrawal symptoms. Do you think your Doc thought you were hooked on Roxi so he switched you to Oxycontin? That may be fine, but IMO he cut your dose way too much at once. Maybe he's trying to force you into addiction care? I found out the hard way that when you become opiate dependent on a high dose, and your Doc dies or retires, etc. very often other Doc's won't give you the same dose. They force you into detox, to Suboxone, Methadone, or searching for a sympathetic Doc. That takes $$$. Something I don't have. So I'm on Subutex. It's not bad at all. But the pharmaceutical companies keep playing with the formula which goes back to Point 1. Different formulations of the same drug feel and work differently in the body.
However Cleo I can offer you some hope in that often a Nurse P is more lenient and forgiving than a MD is. So you may have a better chance of the Nurse P upping your dose or switching you to a stronger drug. It's my experience that especially with Oxy, after a period of time the dose just keeps going up and up. The cravings also get unbearable. Changing drugs is probably best. But the medical profession doesn't always agree with me. Since you have legit pain I hope they aren't trying to force you onto Suboxone. Go see the Nurse P. I hope she helps you. If she doesn't, we have to discuss options. Maybe he's trying to force you into addiction care? I don't think that the Dr is trying to force me into rehab When I moved here from Fl I was totaly honest with him with the mrri's to prove my pain after all the goverment does not give me a dissabetaly check because I feel good LOL He mentioned methadone and I told him in no way did I want that.He just said that I was on way to many short acting meds But I thinkI am going to ask to be put back on the oxy 15's instead of the percocet. Right now I have to go change my shirt I am sweating SOOO much And I am hurting so bad THIS IS AWFULL.I never thought at 50 years old I would be going through this my god how do ppl do it?

Hi Cleo,
I remember seeing you around several months ago. I may have even answered you. But I don't remember what the problem was. I'd like to know what causes the pain? I'm worried that if you ask for Oxy 15 that they may see that as drug seeking. It really is awful that our society is in a place where all people taking opiates are considered potential drug abusers. And unfortunately there are people with pain who also abuse the opiates. But the worse part is society and Doc's have this idea that even in pain, if a patient enjoys the effects of the opiates, then that person cannot have them for pain relief. I think that's insane, but that's me. You need either more Oxy or a different drug. You would probably be fine if they'd give you the same dose of Oxy even as Oxycontin. For example 5 of the Oxycontin 40 mg pills plus the 3 Percs should make the wds calm down. But Cleo the dose is always going to go up.

For some people Methadone is a very good pain killer. I think tolerance develops slower with Methadone. Maybe you should try it. You're learning something I learned the hard way too. Some Doc's will give us as much of an opiate as we need to stay out of pain and wd. Others simply won't. I wish I had more ideas right now.
The reason I am on pain meds is I have had 2 back surgeries allready And I have a total of 7 heraneted discs from my neck to my tailbone in my spine And bone spures in my shoulder not to mention the arthrites [sorry about spelling] in my knee and feet, The reason I thought about asking for oxycodone 15 mg was He put me on perocet 10 mg 3 a day for break through pain Plus oxycontin 40 mg 3 times a day.And isn't oxycodone the next step up from perc?

When I was on the oxycodone I felt so much better.I know that I am scared to ask Beleave me.The thing is I still have 80 oxycodone pills from the last Dr.But I sighned a contract saying that I would NOT take past meds from another Dr,Beleave me I am fighting SO HARD not to take them Just knowing that I have extra meds that will help and do not take them is a BIG acclopishment for me.I don't want to lose a pain Dr that is willing to help me.I have my old meds locked away.I am fighting at this very moment I am in sooo much pain right now What can I do? Should I not tell the new Dr that I am still in pain And just suck it up?
The Cleo
Cleo, Oxycodone is the name of a drug. It's not the name of a pill. This is where you're confused. Pills have names too. I'm pretty sure the name of the pill you call Oxy 15 is Roxicodone, or Roxi for short. It's just plain Oxycodone without any other drugs in it. Percocet is the name of a pill. There are 2 drugs in Percocet. The opiate is Oxycodone and it's mixed with Tylenol. So when you said is Oxycodone 1 step up from Percocet, the answer is no, because Percs have Oxy in them too. But the Oxy 15 pills have more. The ones you have are 15 mg of Oxy and the Percs have 10 mg of Oxy.
Sweet Lemon pointed out that they do make the pill named Roxi with Tylenol in it too. But when they do, it's name is Roxicet, instead of Roxicodone. It will also be bigger.

Here's the concern. Those little Oxy 15 pills are pure Oxycodone. Because of that, they are a favorite pill for drug users. Since Doc's worry about this so much, that was why I said I don't think you should ask for them. If you do, you have to say it like this, "Doc I don't know why but the Oxycodone pills killed my pain better than the Percocet". That way you aren't saying "I want Oxycodone pills".
I agree that you better not take the old pills. Save them for an emergency, or if you ever don't have a Doc. If they find out you broke the contract you might be without a Doc.
How much can you really suck it up? I don't know. I think you have to tell the new Doc, or the Nurse P you are still in pain. I think the Nurse P is allowed to increase your dose. She may even be allowed to change the drug.
Thanks so much guys I cant sleep i hurt so bad I will talk to the Dr on the 20th about trying to contol my pain better and not mention the withdrawl And hope that she does something If an asprin would help I would take it It doesnt have to be a narocit drug ANYTHING that would help I will let u know how it works out
THANK U FOR ALL THE INFO
Cleo
Hi the cleo,
I hope your doc is sympathetic to your pain and you have good results with a med that helps your pain. Chronic pain is just hellish. As is the withdrawal you are experiencing.
Keep yourself hydrated, and exercise IF that is possible for you, just walking will help.
Let us know how it goes with your doc and if he/she was sympathetic to your horrible pain. I feel for you.
Best to you, and good luck at your appointment!!
Lara
I don't know what I would do without u guys.It is so nice to fins a support system.GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Cleo, there are some non narcotic things that can help. First how much Tylenol is in the Percs you have? On the label of the bottle should be numbers like 10/325, 10/500, 10/750 or 10/1000. The 1st number is the amount of Oxy, which is 10 mg. The 2nd Number is the amount of Tylenol. I know you can have 1000 mg of Tylenol 2 times a day, and maybe 3 times. So unless that number is 1000 already, you can take some more Tylenol with the Perc. Just be careful not to exceed 1000 mg. I'd also say not to do this if you have Liver disease. You may also be able to take Aspirin once of twice a day at least 4 hours apart from the Tylenol. I'm never sure about this. Can you check that with a pharmacist. I think some people do it. I think you can also take Aleve or Ibuprofen once or twice a day. But not Aleve, and Ibuprofen and Aspirin. Just one of those 3 drugs.

More things for pain are the Lidoderm patches and the Flecter (sp) patches. You need a script. If you have never tried these, ask for them when you see the Nurse P. I have arthritis in my lower spine and I use the Lidoderm patches and they do help. They are worth a shot, if you never tried.
Some people say heating pads work. I never tried them.
All this can help the pain. I sure hope they do something about the wds. It's horrible that Docs do this to us.
