Rebif (interferon beta-1a) is formulated as a sterile solution in a prefilled syringe intended for subcutaneous (sc) injection. I am guessing that when you are injecting into the thigh you might be injecting into the muscle and that is why it is more painful.
Here is some more information.
How should I use Rebif?
Rebif is available in ready-to-use, pre-measured, pre-filled syringes and requires no needle assembly. Rebif is given as an injection under the skin or into a muscle. Your doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider will give you this injection. You may be shown how to inject your medicine at home.
Do not self-inject this medicine if you do not fully understand how to give the injection and properly dispose of used needles and syringes.

Hi, try to apply a warm cloth frist then inject the thigh. after apply a cold cloth. If this doesn't work then you need to decrease the depth of the injection... it might be to low... thus the pain feeling. I had the same issue but the mentioned above helped me a lot! hope it helps for your husband.

Hi,my nurse came a few days ago and I started on avonex injections to give those injections you put one hand at the joint of your hip and thigh ane hand on your knee you are suppose to inject in between the 2. Ice it for a minute first then where u iced it use your alcohol wipe let it dry fr at least 20 seconds hold shot like a pencil stick it in quick without your finger on the plunger hold it just below the seal of the needle use your index finger to swiftly push down the pluger remove the needle straight out good good luck hope everything goes well for you and your family hope this helps whoever it can
