I am trying to locate paregoric, for which I have a prescription. The drug co. I contacted said the FDA made them stop making it.
Where do you get tincture of opium? Paregoric also contains camphor, from what I have found out?

You need to have a prescription from your doctor. I'm sure your doctor already knows what's happening with you and will write a prescription for you. The biggest hassel is that everyime you need a refill you need a new prescription as it is a controlled substance. If you explain your circumstances they will help.

I have a prescription. My drugstore cannot get it. None of the national chain ddrugstores can get it. I've called everywhere. I've taken it for years, and I am completely familiar with the routine. It is no longer available. Thank you for your reply.
Peggy,
I am sorry for the confusion. I was talking about having your personal pharmacist compound Paragoric for you. If they can't, then they will be able to direct you to a pharmacist who can. You can also get a prescription for Tincture of Opium, which works as well as Paragoric, from your doctor. I was in your position a couple of months ago and have been able to work it out with help from my pharmacy. I hope the same for you. Good luck.
Thank you, piperlu. Walgreen referred me to a "natural pharmacy" locally, but I haven't had a response from them yet. If they won't help me, I know my doctor will give me a prescription for the tincture of opium. I didn't know I could ask him for one. My current pharmacy has been repeatedly requesting it from their supplier, but they didn't offer to compound it. Maybe I'll ask them, too. I appreciate your response. For years I thought I was alone with this problem. I have it pretty much under control by making sure I do not skip meals (which I found out from a friend, not my doctor), but I have flareups in the Spring and Fall.
I have found a compounding pharmacy nearby that made Paregoric for me. Of course, I needed a prescription from my doctor. Also, it wasn't cheap,[100cc for $43.00] and they didn't accept my drug insurance plan. However they did give some forms to submit to my plan to try to get some reimbursement. I'm waiting for a response.
