There is no generic version of Mebaral available.
The drug company that manufactures Mebaral has decided to discontinue making it.
Government regulatory restrictions required Lundbeck to file and gain approval for a Mebaral new drug application to comply with FDA regulations - an unprofitable process for the drug company.

I am going to try slowly switching to phenobarbital. It is pretty similar chemically, so my doctor seems to think it would feel about the same to me.
the only answer is to seek presidential interference and ask for a company to start manufacturing it. It is too bad that our lives do not mean anything to Lundbeck a company most noted for interferring with another medication used in executions. They fought this and won. But they won't fight for the innocent who may die from the absence of this drug. Lundbeck is an executioner itself by action. They also did not notify me until the night of their merger. I hope akom and Lundbeck's stock drops as quickly as the hope of all the sick who depended on them. I now have 3 months to replace a drug that I used for 40 years without a problem. Their reply was that the lives of those on it did not financiallypay off for them and they were sorry that it may be fatal for me. I would never use a drug manufactered by these companies. Let them stay in Denmark and may all their patents be denied until they straigthen this out.
We have set up a web site specifically for those of us who have been affected by the discontinuation of mebaral. Please, visit www.mebaraldiscontinued.com. We cant fight this alone... we need every one to come together to make a change.
Lundbeck still has some Mebaral in stock, if you need it, your Dr. will need to write a prescription and contact Lundbeck's Specialty Pharmacy (Mebaral Support Center): 800-310-5308. When he/ you call, it will probably go to voicemail. They will call you back the next day. Talk to Ja Tam (not sure how to spell her name, my dad talked to her). They will not ship anymore Mebaral after March 15th!!!
