I took a three month dose of Lamisil pills for toenail fungus. After finishing I waited for three months and all visual signs of the fungus had disappear before going for a pedicure in a brand new salon. After removing the nail polish the fungus had reappeared I went to a podiatrist who said I "probably" have nail fungus and gave me only a one month Rx for Lamisil. I did not take it because I thought it might not be enough to kill it and would only be making the fungus stronger, thus needing another dosage.
Did I make the right decision? I am going back to another doctor after I get your answer, whatever it is. Thank you. Sherrill Icklan
When would a physician only give a patient an Rx for 1 month of Lamisil?

It is not an uncommon practice for doctors to write a prescription for only one month even though the treatment course may last longer. Did the doctor ask you to come back for a recheck the following month? Often, doctors will only authorize a one month supply because they want to ensure that the medication is working, that potential side effects are monitored, or possibly out of habit. If the doctor told you to come in for a recheck, you'll probably have to be seen before you can get a refill. In other cases, when your supply is running out, contact the pharmacy where you had it filled and request a refill. They will submit the request to your doctor. If the doctor doesn't respond to the request within 72 hours (excluding weekends/holidays), you may need to call the doctor's office to find out why. Because many doctors require 72 hours, be sure to contact the pharmacy early enough to avoid running out. In most cases, I recommend calling in your refill request 5-7 days before you need it.
