I had an allergic reaction to Taxaeter early in the administration of the drug. The first dose I didn't recognize the reaction, due to dozing, after the IV Benadryl. The second dose I received a stronger prophalactic dosing of steroids. 20 mg of Decadron po the day before, 20mg po the morning of my treatment, & 20mg IV before the infusion along with 50 mg IV Benadryl. I was awake, when I noticed a reaction starting, within 10 minutes of the start of the infusion. The reaction was much milder, than the first reaction. After being given IV Solucortef & additional IV Benadryl I was able to continue both the infusions, at a slower rate, without difficulty.
Now my Oncologist wants to substitue Adriamycin for the Taxatere. I don't want to take Adriamycin with the chance for serious long term side effects: Heart Failure, Leukemia, Bone Marrow Supression, let alone the more liklyhood of nausea & vomiting.
When should Taxatere be changed to another drug in a TC regimen?
