When should I drink the glass of water with magnesium citrate for colonoscopy? Before, or after?

When I had my Colonoscopy the Dr. instructed that I should start taking the Magnesium Citrate the night before approximately 7:00 PM. Also, only soup broth and clear or yellow Jello was recommended. The citrate will cause you to empty your bowels for the procedure the next day.
Immediately after the colonoscopy procedure please go home and rest for the day.
