Lisinopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACE Inhibitor), which helps reduce blood pressure.
Micardis HCT is a combination of an angiotensin II receptor blocker and a diuretic.
Telmisartan, the angiotensin II receptor blocker works by relaxing the blood vessels.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic works to decrease blood pressure. It helps the kidneys to eliminate fluid and sodium from the body.
ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers work differently.

Most people who experience cough from ACE Inhibitors will experience cough from all of them so there is no point in putting you on another ACE Inhibitor. Angiotensin II antagonists are generally used in high blood pressure patients who experience cough on ACE Inhibitors. This generally does not cause coughing as a side effect.

My Doctor switched me from lisinipril to Micardis and I am not comfortable
with taking it. I am concerned about the side effects. They mentioned
that you could have some diarhea, vomiting and sinus problems. All of
which I already have problems with. My question is, If there is a huge
difference between the two as far as tolerance. Meaning if I tolerated
the lisinipril would it be likely that I would tolerate the Micardis too. Are
they any way related or in the same family as far as side effects?
