What would cause dehydration of discs thru C2-C6?

I am not sure on why your wonderful son has the dehydration problems in the discs. But what I do know is my brother at the age of 16 years had benign 8" tumor removed from his lower spine. It was wrapped all around the nerves, the bones, tendons and discs. He was told that he may never walk again. I know that this is a much older boy, but yet 16 is still a child. Today he can run and jump and nothing stops him. Also he had Radiation.
